1970 New Owner

Hello all,

My family and I just purchase a 1970 Sovereign International Land yacht. Not sure where to start. I have found very little wood rot on the floor like two or three small spots and I don't think the back has separated from the frame. It needs a real good cleaning and air out.

The person we bought it from stayed in it for one night and worked on it for two afternoons before he got sick and no longer could spend time on it. We purchased it for $1300 which I think was a great price. Oh the refrigerator still works and the electric hitch to me this is a sign people took care of it.

Looks like a score. You may need some axles. I just wanted to say it before anyone else. Best of luck with her.

What a buy! Forty-four years old. Amazing. Now you can make it yours. What is that giant glass door item in the kitchen? An oven?

You are taking the right approach--the condition of the subfloor dictates what happens next in many cases. If the floor is a total loss, then it is time to start planning the shell-off. In your case, it sounds like you might need only a couple of patches. So, I would recommend your next step to be to make sure that it isn't leaking--ie. check and replace all of the window, vent, plumbing stack, and door seals. Once you are confident that the trailer isn't going to continue to rot, you can work from the ground up--tires, axles, frame. Finally, you can get to work on the interior refurb.

good luck!
