I figure anywhere from about 30 minutes north of Chattanooga up past the mountains. I will be good for about 3:30 minutes driving before I get to tired to drive.
Do you know of place that you could recommend?

Loth,
I am not sure about GA, but in TN if you stop at any Welcome Center (do not confuse these with parking areas, which have no services) it is safe for the most part as there is Hwy Patrol thru them all night plus the amount of trucks & campers that use them.
Somewhere on this site is also people who let you park overnight at their home. I know because I am listed as a overnight stop.

I always see security at the rest area welcome centers but thought you were only allowed to park there for no more then 2 hours? I checked out another site that listed free camping areas for people on the go. They said walmart allows you to spend the night because it is corporate policy and Cracker Barrel has a no camping over night policy. I have been reading also about truck stops. Union 76 truck stops let you spend the night. I was wondering about any other truck stops?

I checked out a couple of Walmarts on google earth up and down interstate 24 in tn. I am trying to judge which one is the best for when I get tired. If I am feeling good I will try to make it to Clarksville and stay at their super Walmart. Manchesters is across the street from a truck stop and next to hotels. That looks like a pretty good one. Bonnaroo is down the street. I was wondering if they have people camp there during the off season

Brian has mentioned something which is Cracker Barrel not allowing overnight stops this is true. One of the Cracker Barrels that I use to frequent told me that corporate has pretty much put a stop to it because of a lawsuit they had over someone being robbed at one of their stores during the night. I do know that most of Golden Corrals still allow over nighters especially if you are a veteran. Those few that dont have it posted and it is because of city ordances. Walmart Corporate is getting where they are going to do the same thing because of the problems and city ordances, right now they leave it up to the general managers.
