value of roof spot light
I have my head liner removed for some cable and wire install for a new TV, and was thinking of installing a roof spot light. For those who have them, how much do you use them? Are they worth having? And are any idea how much they cost for something close to original equipment (a good quality one). I just thought it might be nice to have one, and don't think the install would be that bad. BUT, could be wrong about that, as I don't really know that much about them. Has anyone ever installed one? Or can think of the difficulty it would be to add one knowing how they are originally installed. THANKS

My 310 had one when I got it. Fun to play with but I think I only used it once for real when trying to spot a road sign name in the boonies one night.
I doubt that they are cheap. I don't think I would add one personally after the fact.

My 92 LY has one, and I like it. Great for freaking people out when they put the high beams on you. Seriously though, I do use it at the race tracks and it also helps when trying to see things out of sight of the headlights at night. It would cost you $$$ and create another opportunity for water to come visit.
Where are you mounting the TV? I had to pull the headliner on mine in order to repair major water damage. I ended up installing a 24" Flat panel TV from the ceiling using a pull down ceiling mount while the headliner was out. I added an HDMI cable port and a 110V AC plug into the ceiling as well as reinforcing the area to support the TV and mounting bracket. Seems to have worked out OK for me.

I'am installing a 26" TV in the center of the upper front console. I've removed the two large upper cabinet oak doors, and having two smaller oak doors made to make room for the TV and speakers. Also installing new larger single sink and new hard surface counter&table tops. I'll post some pictures soon. Would like to see your progress also, post some pictures. Randy

roof spot light
my 1986 had an original "big" spot light, that was hard to get to (if you needed) while driving. So I replaced it with a boating -remote control- spot light. BUT, I have never used it, maybe some day I will??

I've got a remote-controlled roof-mounted spot, I use it a lot when coming into campsites, signaling a truck when he's passing, and, yes, zapping oncoming with their highbeams on.

I had one when I had a '94 LY. The original headlights didn't provide much light (lousy sealed beams) so I used the roof spot light to make up for it in certain circumstances - for example, driving on a wet winding road where there was no street lights after it had rained.
I recommend installing one if you can.

I've got a real nice one on my 95 classic. I'd pull it off and sell it to you for cheap if it wasn't such a pain to get at the mechanism, wires, and plug the wholes. I wouldn't mind removing it and the very large array of antennas. You would think it was searching for extra-terrestrials. I wouldn't even mind loosing the airhorns to clean up the roof.
I've used the horn and light about twice to show someone how "cool" they are.
We usually try to be parked and setup well before dark. I think a nice battery powered spot/flood light would be much cheaper and more versitile.

Thanks to all for your input. I decided to much work involved to install one. I did find out that CoLaws did have some for sale, they were not nearly as expensive as I thought they would be, around fifty dollars for everything, in case anyone else is interested in obtaining one.

I plan on using my Spot-light for Big-Foot spotting.... Someday we'll get a video of him in the beam from it !
In reality, we have found it useful for viewing into a back-in RV spot at night.
