Isuzu Turbo Diesel 350 I.D. & Parts

Thank you Smartstream for turning me on to Hamilton Engine Sales in Portland Oregon (503) 280-1353. I spoke to Chad who was very knowledgeable and very straight forward when he said "I can't get you anything for your Motorhome but can get you everything for your engine."

Before you call identify your engine by finding out the Model and Serial No.

The model can be found on both the ID tag and serial stamp. See picture of tag below. Mine is a Model: 6BD1

The serial number is located on the left front lower part of cylinder block. You will have to get under with a flashlight and possibly some brake cleaner or sand paper to clean off the area. See pictures below. My serial stamp reads Model - Six Digit Serial: 512557

Once you get Chad this I go it's smooth sailing.

This would be a great thread to start posting bits and pieces that people buy for the Isuzu, along with part numbers, location and prices.

Yes, you have a 6BD1A, not a 6BD1T as your turbo was an aftermarket BAE system with a Rajay turbo I do believe. After 1984 AS used the 6BD1T with its beefed up internal parts but with the same aftermarket turbo system for packaging purposes (lower dog house).

As for a replacement turbo I know that one of the housings has to be turned to match and John has clearance issues with his replacement. I'm sure John(Shepherd57) will have the manufacturer and part number of the turbo he used.

You're right Tony, it looks like it is a Rajay Turbo system. I'm replacing the water pump and learned that the 6BD1 models were built with 3 different water pumps depending on the serial no. I'll place pictures and parts numbers once they come in, great idea!

Yup! John took off his K&N filter and found NO filter material left; nada, zip; which explained all the very fine sand he found in the intake tract from the turbo to the engine; so he took a look at the compressor part of the turbo and sent me a picture of a turbo compressor fan blade that had been sand blasted down to a point that the fins of the turbo were just nubs. New turbo installed and voila! he has power.

Tough beatch of a motor that it's still running after injesting sand for a while. (PO drove in Arizona and New Mexico quite a bit). However everyone needs to inspect filter regulary.

I'll let him know to post pictures, part numbers and experience.

His motor is not original so it maybe a T model.

Does anyone have an online go to vendor for engine belts and hoses (radiator, water pump etc.)? I'm striking out on my web searches and I even have part numbers for the belts....

The alternator belts are Isuzu #1136711430 or SPB 1220 metric v belt (17x1220mm) the A/C is a standard auto v belt but I don't have the number handy.

I don't have the hose numbers handy but some of my hoses still have the labels on them, I'll see if I can get them in the next couple of days.

I buy mine online from V-belt supply. SPB 1280 I believe. Had good luck with these guys.
Double check your belt length, the 1280 is the length in mm. They are metric belts, about $9 a belt.
The SPB designation is the proper width and depth.

I'll try those numbers, I found the maintenance sheet below in my "bag" of paperwork which I have since then sorted out into 3 different folders with original manuals from the satellite antenna to the built in food processor if anyone is looking for those. Hopefully you can read the item lists on my folders.

The maintenance numbers on that sheet seem to be old enough to be hiding under 36 years of replacement numbers, so they are challenging to find online.
