Engine oil leak

I have suffered with an engine oil leak since getting the 345. It looked like it was coming from the crankshaft rear seal. As you all may know replacing this seal takes a lot of work.
I just had the coach to Green's Circle City GMC on the south side of Indy. I wanted to know what it would cost to fix the leak. Much to my very happy surprise they found that the oil filter adapter was the culprit. The gasket between the block and the adapter to be more specific. This was a very easy fix, and now I don't have an oil slick everywhere I park!
So if you are suffering with a leak at the rear of the engine, you may want to take a look at this gasket.

The fittings for the oil cooler lines (if equipped) are also known to develop leaks in the same spot.

I had the same leak on my 7.4 liter engine repaired just a month or so ago. Apparently it is a fairly common leak path. I'm with Rob though - it looks a whole lot like a leaky rear oil seal.

I had planned to let the shop replace the oil cooler lines Terry mentioned because one of the lines was obviously leaking at the flex-to-hard-line union near the cooler itself. To my surprise, the shop said the leak was power steering oil dripping on the line and not motor oil seeping out.

After later verifying the shop was in error, I went by the local Chevy Dealership and asked for new lines to install myself, "Sorry, but those lines are NLA - No Longer Available."

Deciding to get a seasoned, honest professional's opinion on the lines' availability, I emailed overlander63 with my tale of woe. Within an hour he had replied with the telephone number of a Chevy Dealer on the west coast who had the lines and had already set aside two for me. Mrs. Claus ordered them for me, and I installed the lines this past weekend.

What a wonderful way to start the new year, Rob.
I think I may have finally found someone to service Chummy and he's just a few blocks from my house. I had been noticing a shop with a lot of mid size older delivery vans and trucks sitting around obviously waiting for service so I stopped in to talk. Turns out the guy was the mechanic/driver for Allen Bradley, here in Milwaukee when they owned an Airstream Classic used as an airport limo. He was very knowledgeable and excited to work on one again. I have a long list of things I have screwed up or can not do myself so would screw up and made an appointment. Hopefully this will work out as well as your trip to the shop.

That is what I found. The shop I took our 345 to just works on the larger box truck stuff. A Chevy P-30 is what they see a lot of. Great guys to work with also.
