Airstream interstate

Does anyone have knowledge about warranty work on the Interstates, thinking about buying a new one but am afraid closest facility is 3.5 hours away. Dealer is a bit fague on who else could do the chassis and/or engine work. I would hate to purchase one, and have to drive that far anytime I needed something done to it.

First of all great decision on getting an interstate.
I love mine!

Depending on the year you get will depend on the location to get your chassis and engine serviced.

For instance mine is a 2010 airstream interstate on a 2008 sprinter freightliner chassis. It gets serviced at a local freightliner service center.

I think if its newer, 2010 or 2011,or newer it can be services at a Mercedes Benz dealer and maybe also a sprinter service center.

Keep in mind they do have a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty which does carry over.

Good luck!!!

From Huntsville you currently have two choices within 100 miles according to the MB Sprinter web site.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter: Find a Dealer

MERCEDES-BENZ OF NASHVILLE
630 BAKERS BRIDGE AVENUE
FRANKLIN
TN, 37067

CROWN AUTOMOBILE CO. INC.
1800 MONTGOMERY HIGHWAY
HOOVER
AL, 35244

I think a Freightliner Sprinter dealer could also handle warranty work, but according to their web site the dealers are now closer with tow within 100 miles.
Freightliner Sprinter: Find a Dealer

FREIGHTLINER OF CHATTANOOGA, LLC
137 GATEWAY DRIVE
RINGGOLD
GA, 30736

NEELY COBLE COMPANY, INC.
319 FESSLERS LANE, P. O. BOX 100347
NASHVILLE
TN, 37224

Also MB is adding more Sprinter qualified dealers so this could improve in the future.

Confirming what Boxster1971 said. You can get warranty work performed on your Sprinter at any SPRINTER AUTHORIZED MB or Freightliner dealer. You can find these from the mbsprinterusa.com or freightlinersprinterusa.com websites. The one caveat is that a few states don't allow cross-brand service. ie in these states you can't get a Freightliner Sprinter serviced at an MB shop. I can dig the list of these states out if you need it.

Florida's one!

When I first got mine, which is a freightliner sprinter, I tried going to a MB sprinter dealer.

After checking in and getting excited about the customer service lounge, I was told by by, we can't help you.

I think it is ridiculous! So off to freightliner I went.

At least I took my treats from the MB lounge before I left!

Even the Freightliner-brand Sprinters were built by Mercedes, and have Mercedes engines in them. Freightliner (and Dodge) were just sales outlets for the Sprinters, not manufacturers of them.

Would that make a difference as far as cross-brand issue is concerned?

You are correct; all Sprinters have been and continue to be built in the Daimler factory in Dusseldorf. The Data Card for my Freightliner shows an option (SA Code) ZX9 "Freightliner Execution" which means that when it went through the factory it was given a Freightliner grille and other badging items. Otherwise a FTL Sprinter with a given set of options is the same as a MB Sprinter with the same options. This was also true for the Dodge brand during the now failed Daimler/Chrysler marriage.

By the way, the 12 states that restrict cross-brand servicing are: AR, CO, DE, FL, LA, NH, NJ, NY, OK, TX, UT, VT. This was the case about 1 year ago according to a Freightliner regional manager but could have changed since that time since these restrictions are up to the whims of the state politicians. The restriction is even more absurd given that Freightliner is a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America. (other DTNA brands are Detroit Diesel, Thomas Busses and Western Star Trucks). Gotta love the internet!
