First post 1960 safari

Well here it goes. I have committed to buy a 1960 safari located on a ranch in southeastern Colorado and I am located in northwestern Arizona a distance of approx.800 miles. AS appears to be in good shape and has been in a quanset hut since 1996 with all windows and openings sealed shut with plastic and tape. I am 74 years old and maybe too old to tackle a restoration but if I don't complete it the next person can.
Question: Other than repacking the wheel bearings or replacing as needed any other suggestions? I'm so excited I can't hardly control my water.
Thank you John

Welcome to the forums. Sometimes age is a state of mind. I just spent a couple of weeks helping a guy in his mid eighties get his 1990 Excella ready for the road. Concerning your trip to Colorado, have a spare tire and jack. The trailer lights may have to be dealt with. The list could be endless. But I would rather take something and not need it than desperately need something I didn’t bring. There are lists here on the forums that go pretty extensively on a rescue mission tool list. Rope, some chain, your tool box and I always carry a roll of aluminum tape. Aluminum tape doesn’t leave residue on the skin like duct tape. Make sure you tie and secure the door well. After traveling once to northern CA to pick up the 66 then later to upper Michigan to pick up the 55, I feel your excitement. Lastly, when towing back home, slow and easy wins the race. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well the 1960 turned out to be a 1962 safari. It's home new wheels ( they were split rims.) 3 new GYEs 800 miles in 10 hours and yes a LITTLE over 65 a couple of times. Got the electrical and the AC working today. This AS was stored in a quanset hut with all openings covered with tape. So far no mouse tracks amazing. I will title my future posts as a 1962 AS. I found the registrations from the 5 previous owners plus copies of the third owners birth certificate .
When I find someone smart enough to show me how to post pictures I will post some.
