Replacement Parts 1960 Tradewinds
Any recommendations for replacements for hot water heater, stove top, refrigerator and furnace for a 1960 Tradewind?
We would like to keep it as vintage looking as possible.
Thanks

Hey:
I just finished a 1960 overlander and replaced all those parts. I shopped for on sale and scratch and dent. I took pictures and and kept it all looking original.

My converter, fuse panel, 30,000 BTU Suburban Furnace and Attwood 10 gallon hot water heater I bought on line after extensive shopping to get the best deal. My airconditioner and refrigerator were bought used. I took the original counter top and had a new one made. I used all the same wood work and fixed any bad spots. Just like refinishing furniture. We rebuilt the beds using old and new wood. We used defusers from drop ceilings from Lowes that were very flexible and cut them to fit all orginal lamps. I removed the kitchen cabinet, Fan face, then stripped both and had them powder coated. I took the old Linoleum floor off ( the biggest and hardest pain). It has abestos in it (Mask, gloves ,googles). I put a hardwood floor down. Replumed with all new pex and put a new fresh water tank. Good luck. My 6 months project is now going on three years.
I just have to get an electrician out to check some things. Get my axels checked and get new tires.
Good Luck
Brian

Hi guys, can any of you help me out with the diameter of the rear red tail lights on a 1960 Tradewind? Trailer is in Seattle, I'm in Melbourne Australia and seller is less than helpful. Hoping to purchase them prior to it being shipped.
Many thanks

Hi:
I replaced mine by purchasing new ones at Vintage Airstream trailer Supply. I have a 1960 Overlander. I also purchased the running lights.

I've been looking at them - there are two sizes though. Which did you get?

I had one of the old ones plus I called them. Also see if your old tail lights left an imprint on the aluminum and get the diameter. That should work. The ones I got are big and round. Look to see where the screws were located and make a template.

I just sent you a link to what my tail lights look like. I went through vintage airstream supplies because I bought replacements I found on line and they were not the right size. They looked like the original but the screw holes and plate were different. I do not like drilling holes if I don't have to. I just ordered another pair which were the correct size. I broke one of my new running side lights polishing my trailer, so I had to order another one. It was less then $5.00. I got the plate, bulb and lenses. It took me a whole 5 minutes to install it.

Those tail lights are 7 inches in diameter.
You would be far better off, if you used LED tail lights.

I agree with Andy. I purchased new LED lights from Inland for my 66 Trade Wind. They look pretty much like the old ones. But they are much brighter, and much more reliable.
Upgrading to LED tail lights is an important safety improvement.
Now when I make a left turn on a bright, sunny day I'm confident those drivers behind me can see the signal. They will need some other excuse for plowing into me!

Your new lights look terrific ( as does your 66 TW). Did you buy part number 65601 from Inland RV?

Hello TouringDan,
Yes, that is the part number I purchased from Inland. They are not a direct replacement. The mounting hole pattern is different, and the wire clearance hole is in the center, not off set like the originals were ('cause the bulbs were in the center.) You need to make new holes in the skin to fit these lights. The old ones are two bulb, three filament deals. The LED uses electronics I think to fire brighter for brake lights. The new ones have two wires where the old ones had three. So I have a spare wire tucked behind each light, no big deal.
The gasket seal was good on the new ones, I'm confident that my leaks will be from somewhere else, not the tail lights!
I put LEDs on my 86 also. They are just brighter and safer than the old style filament blubs. The down side is the high cost.
