Does anyone know where to find a window, or window hardware for a 58 Globetrotter?

Was '58 a transition year going from the bent sheet metal windows to the extruded/welded frame version? Several folks (myself included) have built the old style, some parts are available from Vintage Trailer Supply. The extrusions for the newer style, hummm, seems I saw those also there. Either way it's probably a diy kinda situation.

They completely removed the window and put in a vent for a dometic fridge. I am hoping to put in a force air vent system for the fridge, and vent it out the bottom, so that I can do away with the vent on the outside, and bring back the window. I have use the extrusions to make hatches on the 67 before, but the 58 is a new critter to me.

It looks like 58 was the last year for the Hehr windows.hey left the frame in, and just went over with a piece of Aluminum on the outside.

Yeah, it was a transition from the folded sheet metal Hehr design to an extruded rim Hehr, called a Clearview if I recall. The folded version can be built from sheet metal and the parts from VTS. I've made a few. The first attached photo is the later Clearview Hehr. The second is a built version I never cut out the glass hole.

The ones on the other side are not extruded. You had to use a brake for folding yes?

Perfect photo. Your front and rear windows are new style and the sides are old from what I can see. The opening portion of the side ones can be recreated by a folding break and flat sheets and using an extrusions from VTS, the only unavailable and terrible to recreate part is the rolled hinge. I've seen folks use piano hinge in its place.

That is what I like to hear! Which extrusion do you use? Do you by chance know of a step by step pictorial for making the side ones? I can always make a break if needed.

If you remove a side window, it's possible to see how the folds are made from flat stock. You will need a finger style pan brake and the bending sequence is very specific, certain bends can't be done in the wrong order or you back yourself into a corner. An experienced sheet metal fabricator is a good buddy to know!
Also, you can't use 2024T3 alclad, the folds are too tight and it will crack. I used 3003.

I was able to build one section of the rolled hinge but it took some specialized dies for the brake and a huge number of trial and failure hours. I'd just use a piano hinge and hide it below the drip cap.

I am new to the site, new to the Airstream community. it is fantastic. I just picked up a 58 Globe Trotter from Jackson Center. I am in LA and it was gutted, used as a mobile swap meet warrior in Wisconsin. The back hatch was locked, locksmith spent an hour trying to pick it. How important is it to keep the original lock?

Were your side double windows all glass? I just picked up a similar model. they had old plexiglass in them. I assumed it was a cheap fix but the frames look to have such a light thickness I am questioning myself.

Original windows were always glass, nothing special. The locks are not that special IMHO, available still as new units.
