Bought my second AS today. I now see how you can have more than one! Someone called to tell me of a AS in near perfect original condition. Went to see and now it's mine. Couldn't fight off the silver fever! Love the floor plan! Question is... I am torn between leaving it original or giving it a modern update. Anyone have this AS that has redone it in any way? I would love to hear your input. Thanks.
Congrats! That's a rare trailer - in the two years I've had aluminitus, I've only seen one other 23' 1980s Sovereign for sale. (It sold quick.) Does yours have the gaucho across the front and the dinette on the streetside?
I'm also falling for the "two trailer" infection - craving an early-90s Excella 25'...
Congrats!, you'll love it. We've had ours about 3yrs. now. It is a great 2 person rig. You don't hear of many but they must be out there somewhere. It tows great and will fit most anywhere. We're partial to National Forest Campgrounds.
I've replaced the running gear and most of the plumbing. I also did the floor in vinyl. Judy has recovered the dinette and made new curtains. Our gaucho is less than comfortable as a bed so that will probably be the next project. I think we'll just remove it and build our own. We just work on one thing at a time so we can still take her out as much as possible.
I liked it as it was originally however, It looks better with updated fabric and curtains to me. Lighter and brighter. We're saving all the pieces though in case someone wanted to put it back in original condition. Good luck and enjoy!

We just bought a 1973 31'Airstream Sovereign. We had it delivered and dont know the weight of it or if we can tow it with our Honda Odessey. Can anyone help us with that answer? This is so exciting. I am sure glad this Airstream group exists.
I think the 31' weight ranges from 4915 lbs. to 5035 lbs. depending on your floorplan. The hitch weight range is 490 lbs. to 730 lbs. Airstream, Inc :: Specs - 1970
Check this sight and scroll down to your unit.
Campaz,
Your response sounds just like what we were thinking! Funny! Change the floor to vinyl, redo dinnette cushions, new curtains and or shades and replace the gaucho. I have been looking online at the Flexsteel website. I would like a convertible sofa with a queen bed. I can't find anyone that has one on display as of yet. I would like to see one first. The trailer feels so roomy compared to our Bambi. I think we will really love this unit. Can't wait to take her out.

The brief answer because I don't want to "hijack" this thread:
The "what does towing capacity mean" debate is a furious one on forums like this. The Sovereign weighs more than the Odyssey's 3500 lb tow capacity. That isn't to say that the van can't tow it - there are folks who tow heavier trailers with their Odysseys - but you would need a well-set-up hitch and transmission and power steering coolers for the van. You'd also need to reinforce the hitch to handle the tongue weight.
My 05 Odyssey was set-up for towing by CanAm RV (canamrv.ca) in Ontario - one of their owners, Andy Thompson, is active on the forums under the name "Andrew T" You might want to PM him for advice. (I'm towing a much lighter trailer than your 31'.)

First, welcome to airforums. I didn't know there was a 23' Sovereign, sounds nice.
We just this past September acquired a 25' Sovereign with side bath, full bed in the rear, nice open area upon entering. All original with tambor doors etc. etc. We will keep in all original because we love the style and for being 25 years old last month it's in excellent condition, it must have been kept in a building of sorts. We thing keeping it original is what 'Airstream' intended by their unique design both interior and obviously the exterior. We did replace the carpeting with an oak laminate floating floor, adds a nice touch. Other then, that ala natural!!
Good luck to you with your new toy, we love ours!

Thanks Tom, that's Fool Hollow Lake State Park in Showlow, Az, the White Mountains. A great place for us desert dwellers to get out of the heat. It's a fairly urban setting, nice however.

This is Rick's wife (Campaz) and I have to offer my .02. We have the sofa with the flip over back that makes into a back-killing bed. (I don't want to get into the whole "what is a gaucho?" discussion and have that definition posted, again) We have to turn in unison. We have discussed many ideas on how to make it a comfortable place to sleep. I'm almost ready to tear the whole thing out and carry an inflatable mattress! I'll be interested to hear about the Flexsteel sofa. (from your post on another thread)
We did the floor with vinyl and it looks great but the seams do separate in the winter. I recently saw an Airstream floor done with marmoleum and it looks and feels great and no seams. If I had it to do over...
