one A/c with a portable a/c in 25RB?

Hi folks it's been awhile since I posted. But I have been lurking and looking. After many trailers, we are going to buy an airstream. (yeah). Now I've read many of the post about the need of two A/C in 25 and up, but here's a question that I could not find an answer too. we have a portable A/C that is 12k btu, since we only used both A/c in our current 5th wheel two months of the year, can the portable be made to work in the trailer in the hotter times of the year to help the 15k that comes on the trailer. Oh yeah we are in Texas. The trailer we are looking at fits what we want except for the A/Cs. I know that this question about two A/Cs has been posted many times, but I haven't seen any about a portable a/c.

2 A/C's or not?

If your going to do most of your travels in Texas and surrounding states you may go ahead and bite the bullet and get 2 A/C's from factory. If you have just the 1 A/C and want to supplement with portable A/C you are going to have to run an extension cord to your electric post to power it. Remember the 1 A/C equipped trailer only has 30 AMP power. A factory equipped trailer with 2 A/C's has 50 AMP power. If you crank up the factory A/C and then plug in the portable you may trip the main breaker from pulling to many AMPS.

The downside to having 2 A/C's in the Airstream are you lose the rear Fantastic Fan vent fan, the added weight of second unit, and the 50 AMP cord is a bear to roll up when it is not real warm. The 50 AMP voltage protector that you buy is going to cost more for a good unit.

Bottom line, get 2 A/C's and be done with it. We have a 2019 FC 25 RBT with only 1 A/C but never intend to be in super hot weather. We prefer chasing 75 degrees. Happy travels.

one A/c with a portable a/c in 25RB?

Just went through Texas with one A/C in my 22 footer. Had a few nights on this trip on I-10 when I wished I had three...big ones. Hot and sticky does not begin to describe the weather we hit.
