TCT Tin Can Tourists
I'm suffering from cabin fever and thought I could give others (like me) not camping right now something to look forward to.
Tin Can Tourists has posted the rally calender for 2010. You can find it here. Tin Can Tourists Calendar.
The past rally photos are great to look at too. TCT Photo Gallery - Main Index
For the people saying "what the heck is a Tin Can Tourist". Take a look here. start [DokuWiki]
Hope this helps the winter blues a little.

Thanks for the links, 'leeper.
TCT members, by the way, are invited to Alumapalooza in June (it appears on their calendar). I think it'll be a good chance for the group (TCT) and the breed (AS) to get together and swap tales from the road.

We are members of the TCT. The spring annual gathering and fall campouts are held nearby in Camp Dearborn, Milford Michigan. We have been to a few of both events and have seen many of our Metro Detroit Airstreamers there too.
Yes happy thoughts under this freshly fallen blanket of snow in the cold snap... I'm ready for spring now.

We got our rally feet wet at our first (and only) TCT Rally in Oct of '06. What a great group of people. We were made to feel as if we were with old friends.

We have two official and one adhoc TCT events within an hour of our place each year and they are each unique and tremendous fun. The wide variety of vintage trailers (and people) who attend are great and they are there to camp hearty and have fun.
We really enjoy seeing the SOB's done up and some of the unrestored rigs that are in attendance are just incredible. The two official events have the open house and that is a tremendous way to meet people and get ideas for what to do to the "next" trailer.

I share the same experiences. Never have I gone into a group of total strangers and felt more welcome.

I met the TCT at Koreshan state park in Estero ,Fl.,a year ago ,I just went to camp and see their trailers. After meeting a couple of their members,I had joined and was pulling my Overlander over to join them in their camping area.Since then I have been making all their rallys down here in South Fl. It`s a great outfit to camp with. Dave

My husband and I just joined. We are camping at Camp Dearborn later this spring at a TCT event. Glad so many people have had such a positive experience with this group. By the way, I first saw information about the TCT on a TV show called "RV Crazy".

If you get the travel channel be on the lookout for a show call RV Crazy. Part of the show is about TCT. Looks like it's from 2003. It's a fun watch.
Or just watch it here. RV Crazy!: Tin Can Tourists

I am surprised there actually was a rally. I was on the sign up sheet with a question, never an answer. Would have loved to join in but no info was available. Maybe next time. There was only 3 signed in RSVP and me Maybe RSVP. I would consider joining.

We've been members for a few years, and attended the Winter Convention last year, and also the Annual Gathering in May at Camp Dearborn last year. What a great time. We are already booked for this year at Camp Dearborn, too. You will have a great time at the Convention in May. Not long now for us to get 'rolling'...... See ya there!!

We had rain in the morning at the 90th Convention of the TCT. As you may know in Florida if the weather isn't perfect folks stay home. I'm talking about the General Public for the Open House of trailers. As for Tin Canners, it was a Sell Out convention.
Great Music and food! The Tin Can Tourists Pot Lucks are where trailerite foodies get to show off all the Food Network lurking of the earlier part of the winter. A real variety and not your basic Church Basement Hot Dish fare. For the most part TCT folks eschew that whole microwaving eggs in a plastic bag mindset and go all out.
The musical entertainment took us pretty late and folks stayed despite chilly night tempts. Several campfires were going on at the individual sites, and you could jump from one to one most of the evening friday to swap beers and tall tales.
Normally several hundred of the General Public come out to tour the trailers but rain kept them away this year. Also the traditional Vintage car show which attends took a rain check, but by afternoon the sun came out and we enjoyed the catered BBQ dinner, Concourse awards (The Speis took Best in Show) , and sideshow by Charon Henning and Your Humble Servant.
John "Canner" Culp, a TCT member since the 1930's was very gratified to continue to see more and more younger folks getting into trailering. "Vintage is a great way to get introduced to the whole lifestyle" he said. "The Classic equipment opens the door, and the conventions and outtings, gets it into your blood. We're really just seeing the beginning you know. "
The Tin Can Tourists is open to all. No vintage equipment is needed but lots of folks show off their restoration efforts at TCT events. There is no segregated camping by type or year of camper or van or motor home. You can even camp in your tent. Most events have several catered meals and happy hours and campfires are welcome ad hoc offerings. Equipment in any state of restoration that can be legally towed or driven is also welcome.

Desert Bloom Weekend informal in Arizona
Rich Luhr of Airstream Life Magazine is putting together an informal TCT to-do in March!
Desert Bloom Weekend
When: March 26-28, 2010
Where: Picacho Peak State Park, Arizona
All TCT members and interested RV'ers are invited to join us in Arizona for a pleasant weekend of camping at the beautiful Picacho Peak State Park in southern Arizona, March 26-28, 2010. This will be a very informal, "just camping" event, at one of the nicest times of year. Expect sunny, warm weather (typically 70s during the day), with spectacular desert flowers thanks to the rainy winter.
This park is slated to close in June 2010 as a result of state budget cuts, so this may be your last chance to camp here!
I'll be leading a hike up the Hunter Trailer to the summit of Picacho Peak for anyone who cares to give it a try. (Strenuous, 2 miles, but fun! Bring gloves, camera, snack, and plenty of water.)
The campground has 85 RV sites with and without electric ($20/$15), plus centrally located water and dump station, picnic tables, fire rings, shade ramadas, and modern restrooms with showers. All sites are first-come, first-served. For more info see Arizona State Parks: Picacho Peak: Facilities The park is located midway between Tucson and Phoenix directly off I-10.
Registration procedure: Arrive anytime you like and register yourself with the state park upon arrival. The park may fill up this weekend, so try to arrive early. Email Rich Luhr, rich@airstreamlife.com or call 802-877-2900 extension 3 to let me know you're coming.
- Rich
