X2 on the percolator!
Needs no filters, only coffee, water, and flame. Can be used several times before consumes water by washing.

We use a percolator as well. My wife's only complaint is it does take a bit more time to make coffee. They do make filters for the percolators which makes clean up much easier.

Hi, I use filters in my percolator too.

I agree with HighPlains AS. You can never have to many coffee makers. I carry a full size espresso machine, one small drip, a Bialletti and just recently purchased an Autoespresso machine for the TV. I believe if I am going to be overweight towing the AS let it be because of coffee machines.

Well, I am just in the middle of installing 300 watts solar and decided to try making a cup of coffee! SO, I hard wired a 800 watt 1400 surge invertor to my 12 volt batteries. Plugged in my 800 watt Black and Decker 1 cupper, WOW, good coffee!

Melitta drip system. Ground clean up so easy and makes great coffee. Cheap to buy and comes in two sizes.

AND it takes up little space, and uses NO electricity--perfect for a camper. (I typically use the 1-cup model; even less space).

We are also well prepared with a French press for my wife, a Nespresso Pixie for both and an AeroPress manual espresso maker for myself. Yes, the AeroPress is more work, especially grinding the beans by hand, but the shots it produces are phenomenal.

Aeropress for me, although I started with press pots (small 1 1/2 cup and a large 4 cup) & Andrea uses a Bialetti Moka Espresso on the stovetop with a automatic plug-in frother.

Even with the insulated covers the French press brew cools down too fast: I would rather do another Aeropress and have it fresh and hot. Since we have only been doing short trips I have Peet's grind me a half or full pound. When we head out for longer stays I will add a grinder (built in to my home Breville espresso).

Goin' a bit percolator crazy

It's been a long winter and I suspect I've had too much late-night-internet- shopping time on my hands because we now have 2 percolators and a tea pot. We have one glass stove top percolator and electric percolator and a glass teapot. They should all serve their purposes but shamefully I purchased them only because they matched the Airstream decor.

I go with a non-electric Rok Espresso Hand Pump at the house and plan to bring it with me onto the road.

After a disaster while cleaning the french press, I switched to a Chemex. Nespresso Pixie when hookups are available which pretty much just means the driveway.

Following the 'disaster' esperience of urnmor after cleaning his French Press coffee maker, I may suggest to use the Stainless Steel version of it. See my post number 206 of this thread. I have one at home since few*years and a 'mobile' unit in my trailer. Fully satisfied
Michel

Yes, we use the insulated stainless french press with insulated mugs.

What we have found that works for us is the old Melitta filter. The new cones are made so you can see when the cup is getting full, although I prefer to pre measure the water.

Good coffee maker for a trailer?

LaBigDogs -

I've been using a Rok at the house and in the trailer for over a year now. Apart from having to replace the rubber feet, and the handle of the carafe coming loose (though I've never had a hand-pump espresso machine without that issue), it's been an amazing system.

I've never had a bad draw - and methods to effect a ristretto versus long draw are fairly easy to figure out. Let me know if you've any questions.
