I also like my Volcano. I added a piece of foil on the bottom for easier cleanup. Next up I will purchase a pizza stone. Tried to cook a pizza without it and lets just say its a work in progress.

Grease Grief

We have only made one trip in our Airstream and it was our first time camping http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...ke-153547.html. We had the Airstream for a year before we used it which gave me plenty of time to investigate cooking with grills. Our camping routine is to only spend a day or two or three in each stop. This is my grilling story.

Started out with the 2 burner Camp Chef with table and cover. You grill burgers and grease goes everywhere and is not easy to clean. It came with a 3-way manifold that leaked and became an attention getter. This was replaced with parts from Tejas Grill parts.

Not ready to give up on Camp Chef, I ordered aluminum GrillGrates which would sear the meat and burn off the grease. I gave up on this idea pretty quickly.

Next was the Lodge cook table with the Tuscan Grill. After cooking with this I discovered that it is not easy to clean and clumsy to store.

Everyone on this forum likes Dutch Oven cooking so I bought a 10" deep DO and like it for cooking.

Next and finally I have given up on open fire grilling and have decided to cook everything in a large Teflon pan over propane. This includes burgers and steaks. This unit is pricey but very well made of aluminum and stainless steel. It is used mostly by river rafters and 4X4 off road campers. https://adventure-ready.com/store/partner-steel-18-2-burner-propane-stove/.
It uses a 30psi regulator and cannot use the Airstream low pressure LP tap. It can produce a lot of heat.

No matter what you cook grease splatters everywhere. The burner and grate unit slide out so that the insides can be wiped clean with a paper towel.

Just finished a delicious burger off our old Weber Smokey Joe 14" charcoal grill. In the vein of Keep It Simple, Stu, this grill can't be beat! Unfortunately the new 14" ones do not have vent holes in the bottom, like the larger 18" model does.

https://www.amazon.com/Weber-40020-P...558740&sr=1-11

No clean up other than to brush off the grill when hot just before the next use. Fits in our plywood go-box in the back of the van, along with charcoal and a starter chimney.

I was all set to get the Weber Q1200 when I ran into this one at Lowes.

https://www.amazon.com/Char-Broil-TR...broil+portable

It's the Charbroil Grill2Go. I just purchased a slightly larger model for my campsite.

http://www.ourflyingcloud.com/2016/0...ing-grill.html

I was intrigued by the IR marketing, and having used my campsite grill I'm a believer. So I saw the smaller portable version cheaper than the Weber and I was sold.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I had the 14" model for tailgating. Didn't like how it heated or cooked. Not enough air flow for me. Tried the 18" and love it.

Did yours have the air vents in the bottom, like our older 14" one does? Makes all the difference. When this one rusts out, will move up to the 18" probably.

We got the standard weber smokey joe and can cook for 2-4 on it.
If you get one, check out the zippered carry bag for it on Amazon. Really nice for storage.

Been following this grill quest for sometime. I currently have a charbroil infrared tabletop. It's just to large and cumbersome to take with us. While in Menards home supplies store I found a small compact grill by Coleman called a "fold and go" it was only $30 so I took a chance. Wow, what a great grill. I've cooked steaks etc. and all have turned out great. I purchased the carry case, the wire grill for coffee pot our stews etc.and the solid griddle. We love it and it just great for the two of us. Go see the YouTube videos reviews. Easy cleanup also.

Overwhelmed researching grills

Looking at grills that connects to low pressure propane supply and very easy to clean and very portable.

Looking at Camco 57305 Olympian 5500 Stainless Steel Portable Grill but open to suggestions.

Has anyone converted the Char-Broil TRU-Infrared Portable Grill2Go Gas Grill to connect to low pressure propane?

Beachbouy I connected my charbroil grill 2go to my quick connect on the trailer with no problems. My local gas company will make any hose with connectors. Had him make me one - hooked up - did some steaks. Didn't change anything.

I ordered a Weber Q conversion kit from Calore with 120" hose and ended up going with a BGE. If anyone want this kit please PM for details.

controller for any BGE, primo our any other style smoker

I have the DigiQ 2 and Cyber Q wifi and use in on my large PRIMO smoker. It s like the BGE , but oval and black

i like the DigiQ 2 better. Just plug it in, set the temperature and walk away.
the longest cook i've done was 4 days, i did not even peek. It as a fan and two temp probes. One for the air , the other for the food

http://bbqguru.com/products/smoker-grill.html

i also have a gas BBQ. the two outdoor tools complement each other

i never use my egg without using the controller. it is set and forget

i also use and LOVE my electric LOOFTLIGHER. http://www.looftlighter.com/en/home/ it heats the charcoal in less than 30 seconds. no more fussy starting

Looking at a "tailgate" Traeger at Costco for about $300. Will need extension cord though for electrical. These are wood pellet grills.

Welcome to the forum! How do you anticipate using this 40 lb. grill? It seems to require quite a bit of set up, and skilled use IMO. Will you be smoking with it, and how long would you plan to stay at the campsite after you set it up?

Have you ever used one of their larger units?

Thanks,

Peter
