It's one of the little-known side effects of "Aluminiumitis", the most common condition among airstreamers that is exhibited by an overwhelming addiction to seek and closely examine, as well as outright own all things featuring aluminum exteriors, sometimes interiors, but all are shiny and streamlined. 
It is very similar to the "seeing pink elephants" effects from other addictions, except victims of aluminiumitis don't merely see pink flamingos, they actively seek out and acquire various physical manifestations of them in assorted forms and formats for the rest of their natural lives...it's a relatively benign condition, but utterly incurable, unfortunately.. 
Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on any form of media... And yes, I grew up in Florida...and since I am in charge of the "overengineering department", the "design department" (DW) is in charge of decorations and design....

There has been an unsettling increase in the Garden Gnome population lately here in the states....I suspect a slow, insidious invasion may be underway...
