Ah, shucks, I thought the Airstream was meant to store my mousetraps and peanut butter, and to keep my little herd of mouses warm on the cool nights here in the mountains. Alas, one of the poor little dears got caught in one of the mousetraps a few days ago, and I had to put him in the dumpster.

Intended for week-end get-a-ways

Looks like it is first going to be a restoration project.

Keep from mowing grass?

Let's see got 'bout an acre of grass that needs to mowed every week or so, if I buy 150 AS's and place them next to each other.... Like many we use ours to dispose of spare cash, kill grass, restoration project, keeps me home on weekends....We did get to use it during one ice storm when the power went out, to cook lunch and stay warm in.

Mine's a mobile recording studio! I'm actually recording the Trailer Park Troubadors next month. Here's my site with some OK pictures, etc.

I Love My Airstream!!

We have property up in Michigan. The A/S is parked on our property. It's our get-away. We go for weekends and vacation.
I get to fish all do along and come back to the Airstream and hang out.
We just love it. It's a place of little responsibility - unlike the rest of our life!!

- Beer storage
- A place of solitude (with the beer)
- A place to work quietly

All in all I am quite satisified... What do you use yours for?

Post My personal extended stay hotel suite

I'm using our Airstream as a hotel right now.

At least twice a year "The Tube" leaves her barn and travels down south to Massachusetts to become my personal extended stay hotel suite for a couple of weeks. I have customers who come in from around the world to do some software testing at my company's Burlington, MA campus and instead of my having a 2 to 2 1/2 hour commute each way everyday I park our Airstream in my sister in laws driveway where I get water, 15 amp electric service and my commute is cut down to 45 minutes each way! I piggyback off a wifi setup next store to her and work from "home" in the evenings (yes, I asked permission first, the folks were surprised to hear I could connect to the internet using their wireless network but were happy to share the connection with me).

It's really great. I get a short commute, sleep in my own bed, shower in my own bathroom, prepare my own food and get to hang out with family. Only thing missing is 30amp service for AC as it's wicked hot in New England right now.

On going projects, pleasure & catastrophes

I constantly need an on-going project ... and when one is serious about restorations, needless to say a vintage Airstream can usurp anyones spare time ...

Of course the pleasure of going where one wants and having their 'home' with them is extremely gratifying.

Although mostly retired I am a licensed Marine Insurance Claim Adjuster and when we have the catastrophes like last year with multiple hurricanes, I use the '85 for living quarters and field office to manage the salvage and recovery of the many yachts that get destroyed and piled up by these overpowering storms.

With the WiFi of marinas or an adjacent business and an Edge card of cellular in the laptop, not only am I able to constantly communicate with the insurance companies but can also track current weather and incoming storms.

My Airstream is integrally coupled with my life. There is NO substutite.

Our Chummy is used almost everyday. Having been forcefully retired I use the Airstream for projects which keep me busy, occupied, and somewhat mentally stable.
Since we do have an engine aboard we also use it for day trips with friends. Last Christmas we loaded up with kids and toured a local neighborhood that decorates for the holiday. Afterwards we made hot chocolate and had a party. Speaking of parties we also used it for our daughter's 30th birthday party. Probably the most novel use so far was to meet with a young couple who is getting married in the Chicago area. I will be officiating and writing the ceremony. We chose to meet half way and used Chummy for a quiet relaxed place to sit and talk about the wedding.

Mall Shopper

Whenever my wife and friends want to go to the mall, I load them all in my 28 MH and while they shop I crank up the AC and I relax, sleep, read, play music, watch tv, I have no need for weekend crowds at Malls.

Pretend camping

We take our three year old out to the trailer and we pretend to go camping. We look at maps of where we've been and play the radio. I love just looking at it in the yard or driveway and thinking of the places we've been/are going.

Currently I'm using it to teach my son how to tear things apart.
I think we're getting close to "turning the corner".
And then I'll be teaching him how to put things back together.
(with all of your help - Thanks)

Our '51 is a great place for my little old kitty (19 this July) and I to sneak away for a quick snooze. It's also a guest cottage when needed and the number of guests seems to have gone up since we got the Airstream over our SOB. It is also a tremendous ice breaker with other people and a constant source of discussion. My wife thinks it's her personal decoration project. The worst part is when people ask if I bought it new. Just once I'd like to reply that yeah. like every other one year old, as soon as I could walk I dashed out and bought a brand new Airstream and happen to still have it. Barry.

I'll use mine as a replacement for the 25' Champion I'm using now as a rolling showroom. I represent a number of golf manufacturers and travel all over the Carolinas. My customers come into the coach where they are out of the traffic and distraction of their golf shops and able to relax and make buying choices.
I have a 20" LCD computer monitor on the wall so they can see their order forms being filled in.
I boondock at Wal-Mart most nights after visiting the local YMCA for a workout and shower. Not only have I saved thousands of dollars on rooms over the past 18 months but I've always had a place to stay!
My new Airstream is an improvement of my image of course and will now offer me a bit more room and much nicer accomodations.
I'm removing an old Trans/Air bus type engine driven a/c unit and replacing with a genset and Carrier Air-V 15k btu ducted unit. I've got a great swing down center line headliner in my coach that will allow me access to the center line where a distribution duct for the a/c can be worked in.
The rear end of the coach formerly a casket chamber and flower area will be opened up to accomodate more of my samples.
Check out the photos of the existing set up.... I'll post the final work when completed.
