Just hoping that everyone on the Forums is OK in the midst of the Ice Storm that has hit the Heartland.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Gene, have y'all gotten any of the crappy weather, or were you lucky this time around?

We have had unusual amounts of fog with drizzle here in Little Rock, just a hair over 50 miles southwest of Searcy, but that's about it. Usually our weather is about the same. It is 49 degrees right now in LR.

Not fun in Eastern Iowa... 30* and raining, on top of a solid inch of slush/ice from a week ago or so... trees and branches coming down everywhere... a fair number of power outages across the state, although we're still on line here...

Fortunately, there's no wind here (yet... )

It took a good while to de-ice the truck yesterday morning and there were some trees down locally. Yesterday evening there were several areas without power locally. When I got to the campground Roosevelt Power and Electric (my generator ) got me through just fine. Actually, I have been off the grid and on the generator for about a month now and I have to admit its worked out fine. The ice here has pretty much melted this morning, but I hear we may get wacked again this evening. Wait and see I guess.

Roger, your description sounds a lot like ours here in the middle of Missouri. Lots of melting today, constant drips, accompanied by the crash of more falling trees/limbs. The tops of some of our big pines are breaking today. We were lucky last night and today with warmer temps, but the overnight sounds ominous again. We were without power for about 18 hours during the weekend and occasionally since for shorter times. Now I crank up the heater to stoke the house when the current is good against the time that we lose power again. We really appreciate the small propane Jotul stove we installed, but we are getting low and need delivery of more fuel for that. Okahoma and Kansas folks, how are you all doing? Here's to Spring...oh, first, Merry Christmas! ~G

Take a look at "Thank Heavens for the Airstream" to see how North-Central Oklahoma is doing. Judy

All we've gotten in SE Ohio is RAIN and FOG - and lots of it. Hard to believe today's temps. hovered in the low 60's. That's so unusual for Ohio in the winter. We had thunderstorms yesterday. Snow came a couple days ago but is nearly gone today. We had gotten about 5" but only the largest of piles can still be seen - the rain has taken most away. Tomorrow is supposed to turn cold and bad weather returns. We are anxious for spring and our FIRST AS trip. We've got our new baby but she is still at the dealers lot where he's taking care of her for the winter - price is right for winter storage. We're busy planning trips for next spring, summer and fall - can hardly wait!!! See you down the road........

Poor Brad is stuck in St. Joseph, MO with a broken-down F-250 diesel. He left Nebraska Sunday night after his mom's 75th birthday party, and the truck started pumping out oil like crazy, so he had to pull off at Craig, MO. The tow truck took him and our flatbed trailer to Mound City that night, and the repair place determined the next day they could not fix the truck and sent him on to St. Joe to the dealership. Turns out it is a stupid little fitting for the oil cooler, and the repair will be $1000 since they have to lift the engine up to get to the thing! The part itself is $350.

To top it all off, he thought he would be ready to go today. His motel lost power this morning, then he called the dealership and they said they were closing and sending their employees home since the power was going off and on. He found another motel with with power close by and has been cooling his heels with not much to do. He has one book with him and no computer. At least the motel found a phone charger for him (customers leave them behind, so they have a bucket of them), since he only took his automotive one!

It has been nothing but rain turning to ice there, but he said Kansas City is supposed to be above freezing tonight, which hopefully bodes well for him for tomorrow.

Susan

PS - Oh, BTW, it was 72 degrees here today, just a few miles south of Vaughan. Crazy!

Let's hope the time passes quickly and warmly for Brad, stuck in St. Joe in our ice storm! It's such a bummer about the diesel truck problems, but hopefully, he'll be back on the road and home safely soon. At least he's headed in the right direction, south, outta here! "...We had thunderstorms yesterday..." In the middle of our ice storm the other night, we had about three hours of thunder sleet, something I'd never seen before. Sleet was slanting, falling as fast and hard as could be, while thunder rumbled over head and lightening flashes lit up the eery scene! This is a weather event we'll be glad to see the last of! ~G

Brad got home safely last night (for those of you who missed his thousands of posts last night and this morning) and he had really been jonesing for some computer time! He was very glad to be here (me too!).
