Rivet Home page tweaks

What do you all think about the cleaned up home page? Comments? Suggestions. There is a lot of info on there. Whould there other info listed? The more feedback you give the more I'll understand everyone's desires...

I like this site a lot, and have no complaints. I do have some tweaks you may wish to consider.

Community info is not real important to me. But the members on line is usually the first thing I look for. If the community info was moved to below the members on line, a user would not have to scroll down the screen on busy days.

Thanks for bringing the Member Photos back. Would it be possible to word wrap on long titles? By the time "Here we are at the supercallifragistic espiallidoucous world tournement" fills out the description, it sometimes makes the current thread list contain two word titles.

Thanks for a great forum!
Tom

i don't like to scroll down to get my buddy list, especially because i use the "PM" link on the buddy list all the time, and i loved it when the photo thumbnails were across the top; they looked dressy from a design standpoint.

otherwise, looking good ....

Quick Question. Can you correct the list in the profile section to include 2005 models?

Slightly off topic...

This is not an issue with the home page but your post made me think to mention it...

It would be nice if there was some way to get a listing of threads that have had posts to them since a certain date - rather than just in the last 24 hours. I want to keep up with new things but it is sometimes several days between times that I can log in. Maybe I am missing something but I do not currently see any way to catch up with what happened over the last x number of days since I last logged in.

Thanks,

Malcolm

This is easy enough to do using the Advanced search page. Then you can plug in whatever dates you want!

I think the home page has improved well. The comments made me think of a question. Why do you not use the entire screen space for the contents? I usually view all my windows in the Maximized mode so I get the full picture. Just curious...

I believe you have to type in keywords to use that feature...I haven't found a way to search all threads since a certain date without keywords.

I too have wondered about this...the 'best' way I have found is to use the 'Quick Link" feature 'New Posts'. This will show all the posts since your last visit to the forums. Only problem is if you've been gone awhile and there are too many to read in one sitting, they can't be recalled up later.

Inside Out is right that you have to look at all of them in one setting. If you time out or sign out you come back and only find the posts from that last visit. If you are gone 5 minutes you may have lost access to hundreds of threads and be now presented with a list of say ten or fifteen. An improvement in this would be a major plus.

Please someone further explain the "wild card" shortcut. Shortcut to what BTW?

Oh the home page looks alright to me. I use the list the most and generally tune out all the peripheral stuff. But the picture thumbs often get my attention, as does the ebay sometimes.

I think if possible it might be an improvement to move the little arrows that take us to the first unread post over into the subject column and out of the member column. I often hit the subject before I remember the little arrow is there. Or I miss it and hit the member name and am taken to a profile. Not life or death but annoying at times.

Question Topic Title font size changed

I don't know if this is related, but... tonight my topic title font size is huge. It looks to be bold and several sizes larger then the last post font. This eats up a lot of my browser page. Can't see as many posts.

Ditto, I think you have a good idea here. But it might take awhile to make a change of this magnitude.

Ok, I have added a date range search to my suggestions list.
As far as not using the maximized screen, that was a change when we moved to v3 of the software. I t was intended to control the look and feel of the site. We might go back to the full screen mode at some point.

Preferred Photos on Top

I prefer the photos section to be on top as before. One gets a complete view of the days offerings without scrolling. Anything to allow wider Titles of articles would be most welcomed. ...Otherwise I give this website an A+ !

I changed the timeout settings from 15 minutes to one hour. That should help those who want to review posts.

I am still looking into other ideas mentioned above.

Andy,

About 30% of time, when I click on one of the members photos thumbnail images for a bigger view, I get

MySQL error reported!

Script: showphoto

Query: SELECT u.username,u.homepage,u.usertitle,u.posts,u.joinda te,uf.field2,s.host,t.signature FROM user u LEFT JOIN userfield uf ON uf.userid=944 LEFT JOIN session s ON s.userid=944 LEFT JOIN usertextfield t ON t.userid=944 WHERE u.userid=944 LIMIT 1

Result: Unknown column 'uf.field2' in 'field list'

Database handle: Resource id #7

Are you aware of this?

Thanks,
Tom
