We went to Boise, ID to pick up a '53 Flying Cloud on Tues/Wed of this week. We were surprised at the number of Airstreams we saw in storage compounds in Boise and also a few on farm/ranches along the road. Saw one being towed just after crossing the Columbia River into WA. and all the rest were in hibernation.

Barry,

So you have joined the ranks of Airstream collector? Is this one you are going to restore, keep , use? The '53' is the perfect year.

Tina and I saw a new (had the dealer name tag) 19ft Safari being towed by a white Ford truck with a bed cap and California tags going west on I-10 in Gulfport, MS yesterday. Wife was driving and the man was navigation or reading.

What a sight, makes me want to hit the road.

I'll stick with the '51 Flying Cloud. It works for us other than I want to redo the cabinet work I did five years ago. Now that I've seen some others and how they did them I have some good ideas to incorporate.

The '53 was for my buddy Greg who will also tow with a '57 Pontiac - but his is a 2dr sedan. We bought our cars at the same time 28 years ago and hotrodded them together. Then moved to the west coast where we can enjoy them most all of the year instead of 5 or 6 months. The '53 is a nice rig and it won't take much for him to have it up to snuff. He bought in out of Boise but it was from Oregon so hopefully he can track down some of the history. It looks like it was well used but also much loved.

He joins our other friend Lee who we found a '52 for last spring. He'll be using his hotrodded '54 Ford wagon to tow.

They both blame me for buying mine and making them feel like underachievers by also not owning a 13 panel Airstream.

From the Arkansas Federal Credit Union, came this afternoon. What better reason could you want to take out a loan?

Most motorcyclists share that wave. I've been riding British bikes for years and have noted no real distinction between make or model.

Say a late model Airstream on U.S. 67 around Beebe, Arkansas. It was going south while I was headed north to Airstream of Arkansas where, obviously, it was magnificent. Amy and Steve were down from Missouri and Susan was having a seal test on her 310. We spent the afternoon doing Airstream stuff and then had dinner. Was a good time.

I saw a 27-31' with an aluminum box on the back bumper on I-24 headed toward Chattanooga, TN. (mile marker 93) sometime last weekend. I think it was being towed by a gold Dodge or Ford (was coming up on someone and didn't get a good look at the TV).

Friday afternoon around 4:15 I saw a late 90's or early 2000's Land Yacht motor home on I-85 just south of I-285 heading south of Atlanta. The last four digits of its North Carolina (I think) tag was 1675. If it was you, Hi!

What Is It....

This one is sitting along I-70 just east of Zanesville Ohio. According to neighbors - belongs to a guy in his 60's - was left to him by his parents and he will not sell it (not for the sentimental reasons you might think). It still has one of the front mount pole antennas on it.

well, seeing as how i work in an RV park, you'd think i'd see AS more often... but we've been the only flash of silver on the lot for the last 2-3 months... until this past week and half... got 3 in a row!
the first two came in under the cover of darkness, so i wasn't able to get photos, and the funny thing was, they came in back to back! i came in from my evening walk excitedly telling hubby there was a AS on the lot one night, and the next day he comes back from his walk saying "oh yeah, i saw them, they're over in blah blah space" and i said "thats not where they were last night!"
first one was an Excella, possibly late 70's early 80's model, WBCCI# 9010 (i think), and lots of SCUBA stickers in the back window, second was a 2005 rear-door Safari (we were actually able to speak to the owners on this one... verified the year for us)
the third was a motorhome that came in with a group of 5 (all the rest were SOBs ) and they stayed for 4 days, so i had plenty of time for a photograph.

just letting all you know that i am, in fact, still alive!

Ditto. If I see a bike in enough time to move my left hand off the grip, I do the "low wave" but, in a pinch, I just lift my fingers off the left handle grip.

With Airstreams, it is always a raucous excitement in our vehicle when we see another Airstream. There is so much to see and do in that short time that the two vehicles are passing each other -- we are waving, we are looking to see if we recognize the occupants, we are looking at the red numbers so we can "look them up" in the directory, and we are looking to see if they see us and wave! So much to do in a mere 5 seconds of time.

You're quickly amassing a whole new VAC chapter's worth of aluminum up there! I like the way you and your buddies think, man. Hope we get to see some photos soon of you guys with the trailers and tow vehicles hooked up.

Glad you are still alive katzklaw!

I bet that motor home is the same one I saw last Friday heading down I-85 south of Atlanta heading into Alabama. Was it from N.C. (or were those S. C. plates?) I always get confused. Anyway, I saw a motor home just like that Friday about 4:15 at the Union City, GA Exit (#64) on my way home from work. It would have taken about 2 to 2-1/2 hours to get to Montgomery if it was the same. It was a nice well cared for Land Yacht.

Saw one yesterday heading East on I-40. Was being towed by a White dually. It looked like an Excella. It was behind me on the interstate. I tried to slow down so it would catch me but it never would get close enough, had it, it would have sen my Airstream sticker on the back and my Silver Threads ad on the side. I was hoping they would get off at my exit, but didnt happen. As it was passing, I noticed it had brown and blue stripes on the bottom. Any idea what it was? Looked to be 30ft.

Spotted unhitched, a Classic Limited, maroon trim late 80's 90's model?, in the parking lot of Chattanooga's Camping World yesterday from Santa Rosa County, Florida. I do hope the owners were off enjoying the Scenic City because there wasn't TV in sight.
