I am in final process of replacing the rear bananawraps on my 24" tradewind, but I am not sure what type of aluminum to use.
Where can I buy them prefabed?
5052 H32 .025 thk is what I have seen recommended. It's softer, cheaper and easier to work with is the consensus. I'm trying to do my 'banana wraps' on my 67 Tradewind worked on one side of it all day. Not done. Wished I would have bought extra material because I'm oil canning this all over. Will be back at it tomorrow. Hope I figure it out and good luck with yours!
I had to make one for one side of my 68. The original was .025 so that is what I used. I used the old one as a template. Flattened the old one out and just traced it on to the new metal. Worked the bends over a 25 lb. bag of lead bird shot. The .025 is thin enough that it will take the form you want you just have to work is slowly and a little at a time.
