1966 safari rear bumper dent

Hello,
Need some advice; the rear bumper of our 1966 safari is dented exactly in the center. There is still room to connect the sewage hose so it is still functional, but the dent is driving me NUTS!

Should I take this to a body repair shop to see if they can bang it out (straighten it) then reattach it? Any ideas of how a simple layman could do it himself?

Thanks

Your best bet would be to take it to a bumper shop. They straighten them all the time. You could even get it chromed. And welcome to the forum

Problem is that the bumper is welded on the trailer as they all are ,so removing it is major job .

Mine appears to be aluminum. '72 GT.
I'm at work right now, so can't double check it, but I was just looking at it this weekend, and I'd put money on it.
If it's aluminum, it's probably bolted on.

Bumpers

Ours are aluminum and bolted on. I removed them and took them to a local shop that straightens and polishes them. They came out great. Perfectly straight, and they shine like chrome. I think to get the dent out took some expertise.

Most of the early coaches had the bumpers welded to the frame
Im not certain of course of all of them ,but being bolted on is more convenient for sure .
