Application of exterior Blue (Vinyl?) trim
We have been unsuccessful in getting the exterior blue vinyl trim on our 1965 overlander to stay in the channel around the middle of the trailer.
Thanks for your time!

Is this the bumper strip about an inch wide?
If so, compress the two edges together at one end and then let them expand into the grooves on the upper and lower edges of the channel. Keep compressing and releasing as you work your way along the channel. It should slip easily under the edges.
If you are going to go from one end of the channel to the other, you should remember that this stuff shrinks over time. I suggest you cut it in the middle, leaving a gap. Place a short sacrificial piece in this gap. As the long pieces shrink, you just replace the gap piece with one slightly longer. No one but you and I will ever know.

How long a gap piece? Like 6" or what?
Thanks!

We just replaced ours this winter and a few days ago we notice a gap in the small strip that goes around 3 sides and was spliced due to it being over a full roll. The gap was about 5" wide so I'd say 6" would be enough.

The original question was posted by an owner of a 1965 trailer. In that year, the "vinyl" was actually painted, not vinyl like in the 70's trailers.

Unless the rub rail and belt line moldings were upgraded to the "insert" type, 65's used paint, as the moldings were not designed to hold any insert.

Ahhh! Well that would make sense as to why it was not staying in...
