Trailer Mover by Purple Line

At the the dealer Yesterday in Tampa, Craziest thing I ever heard of. Trailer Mover by Purple Line. They are starting to sell & install them, took a brochure but manager was not there with pricing because it was Saturday, not sure how much.

Electric Trailer Mover - Motorized Trailer Mover at PurpleLineUSA.com

Just sit there and move your trailer around the yard by remote control. It will move 7800 lbs even on incline according to guy in service department. They plan to set up a demo trailer so people can play with it in next couple of weeks. The system has 4 motors permanently attached to the chassis (runs off 12 volt) and is operated by remote control. Anyone with personal knowledge of this system?

These types of systems are very common in UK/Europe (just Google motorized caravan movers and see how many come up). My parents have one on their 20ft caravan (in the UK) and use it to 'drive' their 'van from the street, around a tight 90 degree turn, around the front of their house in a way you simply couldn't do using a TV.

Although very common over there (and there are versions that drive either the hub direct, drive the tire or fit the hitch frame) very few 'vans are over 24ft and much lighter making the systems more viable. There is a quite nice summary on The Camping and Caravan Club website (Motor Movers - The Camping and Caravanning Club)

I installed these drives on my 23' flying cloud from purplelineusa.com.
I did not need to cut any of the underbelly of the frame. But you will need to re-pipe the grey tank drainage pipe because the drive motor will hit the pipes and close valve on a 23' airstream.
I also ran the motor wires to the front of the trailer to a quick disconnect box where I keep the brain/controllers in a portable case rather mounting it in the airstream.

EU type trailers have a wheels at the front and not a foot.
that is why they can use this system

NA trailers do not have a wheels up front , thus the system will not work in NA unless you add a free wheels type system

You will need a free wheel at the front if you are to install the Purpleline Trailer Mover. See photo example of mine.Click image for larger version

I became familiar with this system when my son bought an opus offroad camper out of Australia. Purple line is the British parent company for opus. The mover is an option on those campers, but I didn't know they built 7k models.
