LT tires have a greater load carrying capacity.
My first Toyota was an '89 pickup and it came with low profile performance tires. It had great handling, especially pulling a 17' bass boat. I loved that little truck. I always replaced the tires with performance tires, but I wasn't anywhere near my weight limits.
My '04 4Runner V8 came with Dunlop GrandTrek AT20 and I bought the same for replacements. I'm ready for 4 new ones but the reviews on that tire say it's really bad for traction. My miles are almost all highway, pulling my AS or bass boat. I never had any problems with them. They rode well and inside the car was pretty quiet.
I've been using the Defender tires on our '99 Sienna, no problems, but it is garage kept. I'm going to go with the same Defender LTX for my 4Runner or the one my son recommends (which gets great reviews) Michelin LTX A/T2.
Odd rule in Canada for replacement tires, but you should be able to use the toyotatirecenter.com site to select different approved tires for your vehicle. The Defender is no longer available for our Sienna, I had to get General Altimax RT43, not even OEM Michelins,
so you can't get an OEM tire, it would have to be a different make.
I used the toyotatirecenter.com link but plugged in Niagara Falls zip. The Michelin Defenders came up along with Goodyear Wrangler SR-A 4 Rib. Both of those look like they have very good ratings if you Google them. I can't put in a Canadian postal code. Try using the "locate me" button and put in your truck's information, see what comes up.
