Top 10 Most Reliable Vehicles

This will surprise most folks, me included, except for Number 1, which isn't a surprise.

I thought for a moment it would begin with 'feet' as in 'reliable transportation'... probably from a discussion with my folks and my own critters..

Doesn't surprise me, but I live it every day. Glad you posted it, because most people call me a liar and I might as well be talking to the wall. We have worked hard on this effort for a decade. Still work to do, especially at Chevrolet, being a mainstream brand.

Do you work in the auto industry? For GM? Just curious as I spent most of my career working for a supplier to the OEM's.

Yes, 31 years at the General as a "factory rep". Early years as a dealer rep to retail customers, 4 years at Buick warranty dept. CO, and the rest as a B to B fleet service rep. (which I love). It's been a WILD ride, filled with the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's getting really good again. The whole industry is a much better place, product wise. There has never been the quality, reliability, durability and performance that we all enjoy now. Just imagine if your AS was built like your (insert brand here) vehicle!!!!

Hi DZNF0G,

Your last sentence really hit home. Around the same time i bought a BMW 550i and an Airstream 23' Int'l. Serenity FB. I posted that the contrast between the two couldn't have been greater, to the detriment of the AS. The BMW has been the best car I have ever owned, with no problems over 63k miles. The As suffered greatly in comparison. The cost of each was roughly the same. AS has a lot of work to do in my opinion. I sold the AS and bought a Bowlus Road Chief and haven't looked back.

BTW. I've been a GM (particularly Chevy) guy my whole life and currently own a 2014 Silverado 1500 tow vehicle and couldn't be happier. GM is doing a good job these days.

John S.

Workin on it! Thanks. It's never good enough for me. And that attitude is prevalent. I am more and more impressed every day with our new CEO and her "mission". The FIRST real "car gal" chief in the automotive world in a crowd of disappearing "car guys". Where's Bob Lutz when you need him....oh yeah, running a small startup called VIA at age????? 78????

It's only slightly different from the Consumer Reports list of most reliable vehicles.
Consumer Reports lists Lexus #1 and Toyota #2, which is odd because they are the same company, but then again Buick is rated much higher than other GM brands on the Consumer Report listing, too.
The Consumer Reports listing of most reliable pickups rates the 2 wheel drive Tundra #1 and the 4 wheel drive Tundra #2.

I notice they didn't even bother to list my beloved Jaguar - I guess they had to cut of the list somewhere!

I bet there are a few that love their Fiats.

I remember Fiats back in the mid to late 70s prior to them exiting the US market. I see they haven't changed in the reliability ratings.

Now its Fiat-Chrysler here in the US.

I think the Buicks they are making these days look pretty good. In the past I wouldn't have given GM a thought but it seems they must have a new designer on board. I also like the styling of the newest Impala. Lots of competition among the mainstream brands - all seem to be pretty good. I don't care much for the off-brands.

While they are the same company, there is a difference in assembly and parts, among other things. For example, there is a given time to do your individual assembly step. For Toyota the time is much shorted than for the Lexus. When you have more time to do your job, you can do a better job, especially when the next person down the line is critiquing your work.

In parts there is not necessarily a difference in quality but perhaps a difference in the defect rate. For a Toyota (just throwing out some numbers here) one defect in 100 may be acceptable while for a Lexus the defect rate may be one in 500. The manufacturer will pay more for the part with a lower defect rate but the reliability will be higher (and the vehicle cost).

I think the quality for all cars has improved significantly because of reports like these. The consumer has really benefited from the competition.

still waiting for my new GMC Sierra 6.2 Max tow. The dealed has been invoiced and it has shipped. It should arrive late next week. The Easter Bunny never lets you down! Have beed a G.M. guy all my life and also lived through the ups and downs. Am a retired Caterpillar Rep so I understand the things that can get in the way of greatness. I have always worked with my dealer and when required the local G.M. rep and have been very happy with the level of attention to customer satisfaction that I received. Perhaps based upon my background, my expectations were reasonable so my results were attainable. Looking forward to hooking up the '31 to the new pick up and see what the 420 H.P. and 460Lbs/ft feel like.

It also has to do with dealer service. Premium car dealers offer premium service.

Some Lexus/Toyota cars come down the same assembly line- Lexus GS350/Toyota Camry/Toyota Avalon are basically the same- made from the same parts-
Lexus LX570/Toyota Sequioa/Toyota Tundra share many parts- engine, transmission-
