New Tires on Avalanche

Its time to put new tires on my Avalanche 1500 Z71. To date my tires have been stock, but I'm thinking of having the Michelin LTX A/S installed. This is a 10 ply load rating E tire. I'm pulling a 2001 Bambi 19'. Does anyone with an Avalanche or Suburban have experience with these tires? How is the road noise and do they affect your mileage?

Yes! I love them - would not have anything else. I have an 3/4 ton Avalanche. They are very quiet and am just returned from a long trip and got 17+ mpg - and thats with the 8.1 motor.

Excelent tire. I run them and they wear like iron. The down side is they ride rough.

Look at your wheels and see if it has a Max PSI rating. The LTX is rated 80psi max and a lot of rims on the 1/2 tons are only rated to 50psi. I know the steel rims on my old blazer were stamped 40PSI max.

Since you don't have the suspension to take advantage of the full weight capability of the tire you might want to step beck to the D rated version especially if the E exceeds the max alowable tire pressure of the rim. The D will also ride a little softer but still be a nice improvement for towing.

I do run mine at 50 psi - get a great ride, also had them on my 94 3/4 diesel Suburban - that rode rough, but I figured it was the suspension because it rode rough with Firestones also.

I have run the Michelin LTX (Load Range E) tires on my '99 K2500 Suburban since it hit 44,000 miles and the OEM Firestone tires needed to be replaced. I just replaced that set after more than 88,000 miles. I now have a little over 4,000 miles on my second set and am just as satisfied as I was with the first. The ride has been absolutely fantastic (quiet and smooth), but directional stability was a problem before I learned that the Michelins are very sensitive to the vehicle's alignment - - have added twice-yearly alignments to my regular maintenance and have had no return of the directional stability issues that I noted upon my intial switch to Michelins.

I run 70 psi as my usual inflation pressue, and have the tires rotated with every-other oil change (my oil change interval is 3,000 miles).
