My Overlander needs the perfect TV!

I love my 1970 Overlander and she needs the best truck for the best job. I would love to know what fellow 0verlanders recommend as I have not bought her the horse yet. I will be doing weekend and one or two week trips, mountains perhaps but most of the time hills valleys and flatland, have a limited amount to spend (up to 7,500.00 canadian). I certainly feel better talking with my Airstream buds as apposed to the 1,000 different stories I am getting from way too many car lot salesmen. thanks gang DonnaD

My '84 Suburban C20, and '99 Silverado 2500 both do a wonderful job of safely delivering us & my Overlander to our destination. The Burb is better for long hauls because we can park the Boyz in the third seat, and run DVDs on the folded-down center seats.

I've towed with the Ford 5.4 V-8 in E-350 and now have a 7.3 Powerstroke E-350. For serious towing, there is no comparison. With 4" exhaust, mild performance chip, and high airflow filters, the torque is unbelievable.

Diesel is nice if it fits your budget.

That being said, if you're only going to go on 3-4 trips a year, it may be overkill. Definitely get something with transmission cooler (tow package) and a lower gear ratio in the rear end (3:73 or 4:10).

The Overlander isn't the biggest one out there but you'll definitely know it's back there when accelerating and braking.

I use a 3/4 ton Chevy conversion van for ours. It does well with the 5.7, and the price we paid was well under your specified dollar amount. If you want a van (they are great, you can haul all kinds of stuff inside) probably a Chevy 20 (or 2500) series van, or a comparable Ford or Dodge window van, LONG wheelbase, but without the extended body hanging off the back would do well for you.
Of course, the Airstream owner's tow vehicle of choice for many moons has been the Suburban. If you can find one of those for the money you have to spend, it would be great, too. Just make sure whatever you buy has sufficient tow rating for your Overlander.
