Ya, I have Black Forest Green. Looks like a dark emerald in the sun.

The PW is "rated" to around 1500 lb payload, but I'd be pretty comfortable up to 2,000 with good weight distribution hitch. I think the truck is a bit under-rated in payload. I've check the axles and tires and they can easily handle 2,000 payload. I believe the brakes are the same on the much higher payload rated trucks, so the only thing I could think of is maybe the rear springs would compress out of "spec" too much, or possibly the rear aluminum wheels. I'll do more testing once I have everything loaded up and at the scales.

The PW has 1 ton AAM axle shafts, and a beefed up frame. Some of the changes designed for offroad make it heavier. One of the reasons it hasn't been given a diesel yet. Also, the 2500 HD has the heavy duty truck (I think)8 ply tires set at 80 psi and the PW has more of an off road tire set at 60 psi and 65 psi. Also the softer spring for more flex off-roading. Plays a roll.

Of odd interest, see attached from Ram's site for 2015.

Those Laramie numbers appear wrong. Sadly.

Do you know the actual payload for your truck?

1980 is what's in my head, but when I pick it up I'll confirm that number because I asked them to read it to me. As others stated it's the rear springs that are the limiting factor. The other 6.4 Hemi's typically have more payload than the Cummins because they weight less. Don't forget the PW sits 2 inchs higher than a 4WD 2500HD.

I chose to replace the 1500 because we are getting more into offroading again and wanting a expo rig. This gets me true lockers and factory lift and 17 inch rims on 33 inch A/T tires from the factory without the DIY mods. The PW has the credentials.

If all I thought about was payload and more power I'd of bought a 1 ton Cummins and called it a day.

The payloads vary between the different trims. Tradesman is about 1500 pounds. SLT is about 1400 pounds. Laramie is about 1300 pounds. The PW's with the 5.7 have slightly higher payloads because they are a little bit lighter.

I here you and can see where you are coming from. Makes complete sense vs your current truck and other offerings. And 1980 would be awesome making payload a virtual nonissue.

I hope that's the case. My fear is seeing these trucks with 1400 lb payloads.

Just realized I never did post a photo. We haven't towed yet but I think we're pulling out this Saturday and then I can take some nice photos.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. We plan to have this truck for the long haul. I knew orginally we might not have the 1/2 ton for the long haul. But we tried it. It worked mostly. But I think we're going to be a lot happier now. Plus WINCH!

Very nice truck! You will definitely enjoy it! Nice to see that your payload is almost 1500 pounds. The bed with ram boxes must weigh less than the standard bed. Good choice going with the Laramie.

FYI..
Door tag off my '13 PWagon 5.7 Hemi. I think you'd call it the "Tradesman" version. Tows my 34' Limited without worry & goes everywhere I dare take it!

We love the new truck. It's made me re-evaluate some thoughts on 1/2 ton towing vs 3/4 ton.

Nice, and not too heavily suspended. Decent ride? Love the Laramie upgrades.

Does it have tow mirrors? Power-fold? We couldn't get power fold with tow mirror option so am wondering if you have checked into after-market power fold mirrors? I can't seem to find them.

It rides really nice thanks to the D load range tires and soft suspension. The Power Wagon probably rides softer than most 2500's because the springs are so soft to allow for greater articulation off-road. That's also the reason they suffer a payload hit. But it's what we wanted.

It doesn't have tow mirrors, but has power fold. This is a current issue. It had every option I wanted but those. Still, I went for it because I bought used, and it was the first one I've seen configured the way I wanted it without the silly graphics in months.

It was one owner and custom ordered according to build sheet, it might be that selecting power fold removes tow mirrors.

1AAuto had power fold tow mirrors in stock. They temporarily stopped selling them after several customers had problems with the motors. They said they were getting them back in stock this month with the issue fixed. I've been looking, but they haven't yet.

I would like to hold out for power fold. But if they are not available in the next couple of weeks, I am just going to move forward and purchase the manual fold tow mirrors.

Next weekend I plan to head to some scales and see where everything is at. I have 600lb bars coming from e-trailer to replace my 1000lb bars for the Reese. Measurement wise the truck is level with about an inch more height out back but the Airstream's hitch is 7/8th of an inch to high than the back. So I need to tinker with it some more, but I'm going to wait till I go get new weights.
