Wintering in southern Utah

We're planning on spending the winter in Snow Canyon, Utah but the week we're heading out (about two weeks from now) is the same week as the Senior Olympics in St. George, so it's probably going to be packed with RVs and trailers. We need to find an alternate campground for at least one week. Can anyone recommend another good campground/state park/national forest within 50 miles of St. George other than Zion National Park (I'm thinking it will be packed too)? It's our first time out anywhere, so we're hoping to find a campground that has electrical/water hookups, at least for our first week out.

If any of you have good boondocking info in the area, it would be much appreciated too!

Thanks,

Jeff

Snow Canyon is a state park with a 14 day limit so I don't know how you plan to spend the winter there. There is another state park there, Quail Creek which is nice and on a reservoir near Hurricane UT. There is also boondocking available along the Virgin River just outside the south entrance to Zion if you can't get in Zion.

Kodachrome State Park, near Bryce Canyon NP, is a beautiful place to camp. If it's no too far to go, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the suggestions. We need a week or two to get our feet wet and then go out and boondock for 4-5 days, and then go back to Snow Canyon. A park employee said it shouldn't be that hard to get back in as it will be only about half full. We hope to switch between hook ups on weekends and boondocking the rest. We'd like to stay in the park campgrounds rather than the RV parks in towns. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
