How to secure quarter round?

Just last week I installed my new flooring (click together vinyl planks) and now it's time for the molding. I bought quarter round that matches the flooring but I'm aprehensive. What is the best way to secure it? My thinking at the moment is I can't nail it to the walls like in a house because the aluminum panels won't hold a nail, if I screw it in the screw heads will show and it will look weird, and I can't nail it to the floor because that's supposed to float. Should I glue it? I was thinking of using silicone adhesive to glue it to the walls/uprights.

Hi

If you go with glue, consider the need to only glue one side of the quarter round. If it gets on both sides, you loose the "float". Waxing the floor boards before gluing to the wall is one way to do this. There are a number of other ways.

I used the fake foam moulding and some glue on the joints and sometimes to The walls nd small air nails to the flooring. The flooring floats, but it does not float much since the trailer is only 8 ft wide.

I used (at home) some white fast set construction adhesive.
I had a place where I needed to replace a base board, but couldn't nail it properly. OMG! that adhesive set up 30 seconds, and the next day I probably couldn't have pried it off.
I agree, maybe put a bit of wax paper on the floor and only use adhesive on the side facing the wall. I later used it to repair patio stones.

I don't recall the brand, but there's many out there.

Don't forget to use real wood. Do not use the fake picture tape covered foam. Does not hold up in the Airstream environment. Ask me why I know!

How about automotive two sided tape for emblems and body molding?

Also, they make plastic quarter round that if flexible and paintable. Though I'm a fan of natural wood.

How to secure quarter round?

I use this for odd applications that require fast bonding.

Use only real wood and then cut & trim the raw wood. After all the cuts are made, take it outside the trailer & stain it with a oil stain to match. I used construction adhesive and long thin brads from a nail/brad gun. Final step...a coat of clear polyurethane.
The prefinished molding does not hold up and comes loose...the method above has worked for three years so far.

Flooring

A little off topic but I have carpet and carpet is not really the best for family camping. Generally when people replace the carpet what do they do about carpeted areas under cabinets and storage areas. Do they remove cabinets and replace the carpet or just leave the carpet in non visible areas?

Cut it out everywhere you can reach. A little work and it should slide out.

Quarter round installation

I am currently renovating an argosy and i've reached the quarter round installation over a new floating floor. I was just wonder if anyone has an update on the methods used. I don't want to do this twice.

Thanks for any help.

I used flexible quarter round and 3M Double Sided tape. Don’t remember which part number. Worked fine.

Hi

Basics are still the same, you do *not* want it connected to the floor. Glue and/or nail it to the wall.
