Lounge / Galley overhead storage

We have a 2001 30' Classic. In this unit we have 8 overhead storage compartments in the lounge / galley area. These compartments come with the doors hinged on the top and open upward.

My question, what have any of you people done to these compartments to help organize your stuff? I have found that ours become very disorderly because of the interior space design. I would really like some ideas for the plates, bowls and glasses. We use one compartment for our glasses and it seem to be a huge waste of space to keep just 12 to 14 glasses in one compartment. But nothing else fits.

We have a 25' coach, so we only have five.

The only one of these bins that is full is over the refrigerator. My wife made some clever cardboard dividers which fit neatly into a box to keep drinking glasses and ceramic cups from banging one into the other. Next to them is the plates - microwave safe glass - four stacked dinner plates, then four dessert plates. They are interleaved with a paper plate and and round of that anti-skid stuff they sell for shelf liners. They travel perfectly well.

Over the galley we have two bins, and one of those is severely compromised by the range vent. We use them for plastic storage containers, hot pads, a box of matches, maybe another item or two.

There are two over the couch and I think I have a couple of CDs in them and that is it. I sometimes put whatever book(s) I bring along for a trip up there as well. Mostly we just don't use them.

I am sure other people will have some ideas. I had one as I am sitting here. I think I will take the used Wal Mart plastic bags (we use them for trash bags) out of the large sack in the wardrobe and stack them in one of the bins over the couch. They would be just as handy there and would make it easier to get other things in the forward wardrobe.

We store most of our camper items in rectangular plastic containers with lids. They stack well. You can double side tape some the anti skid shelf liner to the bottoms. This came as an idea after several sessions of catching things that came sliding out at us after setting up.

I have double-decked several of my shelves. The one over the pantry is double-decked and holds my drinking glasses on two levels. Tall glasses below and mugs/koozies above. The one over the stove is doubble-decked with a lip on the upper deck and holds plates below and desert plates above.

I haven't done it yet, but one of the compartments over the couch will have an upper deck as well. We keep tablecloths, place mats, napkins, and the like there that are much more bulk than weight. That will free up most of the shelf space for heavier items below. The other over-couch cabinet has the radio, CDs, gsmes, etc.

We have more useful space in the 25 Classic than we have been able to fill. The challenge is to use upper shelves and/or dividers to keep the storage neat and organized.

You will probably find, as I did, that there is a whole lot of wsted space behind the pull-out drawer under the couch. I replaced the original slides with longer slides so that the drawer now clears the sofa when pulled out. In the space behind the drawer, we keep lesser used items such as ziplock freezer bags containing our strings of awning lights. I already had some long slides in my shop, but a set of longer slides are only about $12 at Home Depot. The holes lined up just fine to replace the original slides.
