Tongue Jack

We now have a hand crank jack on our 73 AS. Would like to put an electric one on. But, not sure where to get power to run the jack??

The power jack hooks into the same circuit as the breakaway switch. You should find the wiring inside the tongue frame. Make sure you put a fuse in the line.

I would suggest taking the power directly from the battery positive post and installing a 20 amp fuse in the line. The brake away circuit for the brakes should be a clean circuit just to insure nothing can effect it since it is a major safety system.

Buy the heaviest jack available because you will be using it to jack both the trailer and the TV while hitching if you are using a WD hitch.

Nothing wrong with Howie's proposal but it will involve running and fishing new wires. The Airstream service manual shows the power jack hooked into the same circuit as the breakaway switch. Airstream planned for this dual use with the size of wires for this circuit. This circuit also has it's own factory installed circuit breaker. I also cannot imagine a circumstance when the power jack and the breakaway switch would be needed at the same time which, to me, makes a separate dedicated circuit for the power jack unecessary. Just my opinion.

Every travel trailer I've seen has used the breakaway switch power wire to power the jack. In order to use both at once, you would have to be riding on the tongue when the trailer fell off the tow vehicle while driving. If I were in that position, I think operating the jack would be the least of my concerns.
