Window Supports

Hey all, I am resending this question because I cannot find the original I sent out.
So, I am trying to remove the window support arms from the window brackets and the "stud/nipple?" is secured by a very small "lock ring". What is the easiest way to remove that rind so I can separate the support arm from the bracket so that I can clean them up and repaint and then reinstall?
Thanks for your patience with a newbie!

Break it off and reistall using a nut, as Airstream did later on.

You will have to thread the end of the lift arm.

Or, use a split washer.
