58 Sovereign of the Road
Our 58 Sovereign of the Road has mostly Operator Back channels on the sides... but in the bedroom area, I have Operator Lock Back Channels (have both an operator and the locking lever)... and since it was at the end I have the next generator windons on both ends. Thanks for the info Steve!!

Source for galvanized screen
I know Vintage Trailer Supply has the screen, but I am looking to get my hands on some tomorrow to do some window restoration this weekend.
Anyone have a source?
If not, I will order from VTS, and wait on doing the window repair.

Steve,
I replaced my screen with the aluminum screen that you can pick up from Lowes or any other hardward store. I will hold up for years. Its aluminum right....

Robert,
I was under the impression that the aluminum screening would not stay in the small "V" of the window very well, and would come out.

Steve,
I purchased some from a local glass and screen door company in Anaheim. You won't find it at the big box stores or chain hardware (Ace/True Value). It was really inexpensive.

As much as I hate resurrecting old threads, I have been looking and looking for information on these windows, and this thread is the closest. It appears I have the Hehr Standard windows on my '59 Pacer, which would make sense considering they continued using the system on the "inexpensive smaller trailers" of which the Pacer is a perfect example.
Now, I am a little confused by terminology as I have only seen a couple other vintage Airstream window mechanisms in person. I have the "push-bar style"? where there are notches on a lever that you adjust to hold it open, and you lock it closed under a J-shaped piece of metal "hook grommet"? on the "lever back channel" (if I am reading the terminology correctly).
Here I get to the focus of my question: I have read a lot of information about losing windows while trailering. I only have a few more tows left before she gets parked for a few months during the major renovation (DMV, shop, etc.), and thus far have been blue-taping the windows as I read about somewhere else. I am curious as to how the windows actually fly off because this mechanism actually seems pretty secure based upon the strength of the lever and the hook grommet.
And if you've got another thread to redirect this 4-day owner of an Airstream to, he would be perfectly willing to read it.
Thanks!

1959 Pacer Windows
worldinchaos,
Resurrecting old things is what we do around here! You are right about everything on your trailer. you have Standard windows with levers. You should not worry about losing your windows or glass. They are not very susceptible to falling off your trailer. They are more likely to leak. The windows that fall out are late 1960s Phillips/Corning windows. Welcome to the world of 1950s Airstreams!

Ha! Touche, sir. Thanks for the confirmation. I will go un-tape all my windows now and stop looking like an Airstream newbie...
But seriously, I was going to be really surprised if those windows had a danger of flying off. I mean they seem SOLID.
Thanks again.

I have a bunch of Hehr window parts that the PO left in a basket, sans window. I should post pictures because right now the parts are just lying around, waiting for a replacement window. I did find one, but it's not the same and uses different operators, plus it's smaller than the opening. It does seem to be a mirror image of the window across from it, so I bought it anyway.
I am interested in labeling what these parts are for repair reference. Msg me if you can help.

Wondering if you made any lever back channels? I'm missing at least 1 on my 52 Flying Cloud.
