lock on water door
I just bought a 74 27' Land Yacht an did not get any keys with it. I was able to have a locksmith key all but the water door. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

My locksmith keyed mine.
I might suggest another locksmith? Mine used a DECO key blank #1...that might be a starting point.

Oddly enough, a key from a storage access door from a 2002 Coachman (SOB) fir mine... Worth a try before destroying what is there.....

Common key
I have never seen any key for any water door that was not the same as any other. (unless of course it has been changed by a PO). Every Key to my TT or MH was exactly the same.
Hell, I may even have an extra one some where.
Point is that the key is common. I bet you can buy one at a camping supply store.

Hi, David,
Try going by an old, established RV dealer and ask in the service department. They're likely to have a huge keyring with a bunch of keys on it that some mechanic will methodically try one-by-one and then make you a copy of the one that fits.
Young's RV in Toledo found me a key for my battery doors that way - cost was $1.65 for the key. Their service was above and beyond on a cold February day, and I appreciated it greatly.

Smily's got it right!
The generic key for the generic water door lock is pictured.
Many years of Airstreams and a great deal of SOB's have this type.
A good locksmith will have the blank in stock & it doesn't even have to be cut. You could probably call around and ask for the DECO 1.

no go on my '72
hi- the DECO 1 didn't work on my '72 OL, after finally finding one. It is shaped pretty much entirely wrong. But thanks anyway, worth a try!

Our 1973 Safari water door key is double sided as well and is the only double sided key on the whole trailer. Our local Airstream dealer had a key in stock that fit.

yes, mine looks like a double-sided thing too- If anybody would care to bother with making a copy for me to try, for my '72 OL, I'd be grateful beyond comprehension. You can e-mail me at tphansennw@hotmail.com thanks!

I was checking keys and locks on my 1977 31' Sovereign and didn't have all the keys. I took the key ring from my 1976 25' Caravanner and found that the keys for the storage boxes and water door all fit the Sovereign as well. The only key I had to have made was for my battery boxes.
