Hello, I can find threads about shore power without a battery. I'm just wandering if when camping when connected to shore power with a full charge in the battery if I can turn off the 12V switch. Will this help with the lifespan of my lifeline battery.

I don't know how your 1971 is set up, but when I turn off the battery switch on mine, I loose all 12 volt circuits - no lights, fans, furnace, etc. So, if you don't use anything 12 volt and yours is wired like mine, then yes, your battery will last longer!

Thanks for the reply Ron, I went out and checked and all of my 12V systems with the exception of my stereo amp work with the switch off. I just put the switch in yesterday and did not see if the 12V things would work with shore power only. Thanks I could not see the need to keep pumping even a float charge into the battery when not needed. Robert

Robert,
If your converter has a float mode (I think I sent you one if I remember) I would not worry at all about leaving it connected. It's not too big a deal if you would feel better not connected but depending on how long you stay disconnected will depend on the amount of self discharge. Figure about 10-15% per month.
Having said that, it's virtually impossible to build significant sulfation on a fully charged battery. That is what you want, full charge as much as possible.
Your not going to gas off on AGM unless its overcharging and then it could vent (actually overpressurize and release). Otherwise it recombines and will last probably 10 years or longer if you talk nice to it.
