30 amp cord to 50 amp outlet.
Our camp site this weekend has a 50 amp hook up however the Flying Cloud is designed for 30 amps. I was wondering if there is a cord that will allow me to convert the 30 amp cord to 50 amps and if so is there any potential damage to the electrical system?
Thanks
John

An adapter can be had from most rv suppliers. Sometimes the campgrounds have them available. No problems when using the adapter. jim

Does the 30 amp adaptor include a 30 amp breaker? if not your wire could draw more than it's rating.

No it won't. If you try to draw more than 30 amps, the main breaker in the AS will trip.

I'm not sure if these two posters are concerned about the 240V thing...but ALL these dogbone adapters have one of the 120V legs dead. The prong is there but it is not connected electrically to anything. So it is impossible to get 240V to your 30 amp single leg trailer out of the 50 amp outlet with a dogbone designed and used exclusively to adapt a 30 amp rv to a 50 amp RV outlet

My thanks to all. Lot to think about however I probably couldn't run my AC off it so I will pack generators. I was just looking for the easy way out.

You should be able to easily run your AC off of 50-amp service with a 50A-to-30A dogbone adapter. 50A RV service is has 2 120v/50A lines, so whichever one the dogbone taps into should provide more power to your Airstream than a 30A connection would.

John,
Your AC will run fine, usually, whether connected to a 30 or 50 (using the dogbone). We do it all the time. What I'd like is a 30-to-30 dogbone for those *odd* boxes which don't easily allow my surge protector to pull in solidly. Just can't seem to find a pre-made one on the market.

It would be over kill. However, you can buy a 25 foot 30 amp extension cord (~$30) for what seems to be less than the cost of male and female do-it-yourself fittings.

Greg, what's the issue? Is yours the surgeguard portable unit? And what are you trying to find commercially?

After a little more searching, I found these.

One male and one female, and all you would have to do is join them together in some safe manner.

w7 and dzn - Yep, the extension cord is the way I went. Good to have along for those odd layouts anyway.
The issue is when encountering a small connection stand with recessed outlets. I have a Progressive Ind. 30 portable EMS. It has a laughably short cord from box-to-plug. At two recent sites I've had to "force" the plug into the outlet with my security cable to keep contact. If I had a short 30-to-30 dogbone (just like the 30-to-50 type) I could get the Progressive away from the outlet box itself and all would be golden.
That EMS has paid for itself on our last trip out to the Balloon Fiesta this Fall. It detected low voltage, a reversed circuit, and a bad ground condition. I like "clean" power to my refrigerator and AC if/when I can get it.

Yep, looked at those in the CW store in Albuquerque. Could be a solution.

I too, have the progressive 30 amp portable unit. Only had it this past season, so that's why I asked. I haven't run into the box issue. I do carry an extra 25', 30 Amp extension. I've needed it several times in the past to reach a post.
Ken does have a solution there. I've never seen a 30 to 30 dogbone either.

One more short extension solution
Back to this earlier link:
Heavy Duty Power Adapters with Handles - Product - Camping World
Buy a 30 amp male to 50 amp female and a 50 amp male to a 30 amp female. Plug them into each other. Now you only have $29.48 invested and you have the 50 amp to 30 amp adapter if you ever need it.
