I have lived in Colorado for four years now at 7400 feet. With all my experience working on cars, you would think I would have thought of this sooner.
Getting ready for the camping season, I remembered that my seven-year-old Honda was hard to start last season, so I decided it was time for a carburetor cleaning, spark plugs, etc. I have done the regular annual maintenance, like draining the fuel system, so the carb was in decent shape. The spark plug, however, was covered with black soot, as was the spark arrestor in the muffler. It finally dawned on me that I had never re-jetted the carburetor for high altitude after I moved here. I few quick web searches confirmed my suspicion, so I got the jet for 7500 feet and above. The generator operates much better now. The Honda part number is 99101-ZG0-0580 and there are YouTube instructions on how to do it. Pretty easy job.
I found that this topic has been covered on Airforums in the past, but it has been a long time since the last post, so I thought I would bring it up again for the new(er)bies and those of us that forget what we already know…
