New toilet/tank installation for 62 Bambi

Hello,

The previous owner has removed the toilet, shower and waste tank from my recently acquired 62 Bambi. I don't have the old toilet nor the tank. (Water heater and plumbing also removed.)

I would like to install a waste tank and toilet. I'm not even sure where to begin.

My initial thought is to get some low profile waste tank, create a high floor in the old bathroom compartment, install the tank below and the toilet on the high fake floor. I have no idea where to buy such a waste tank nor a toilet that would work.

I know portables would be an option, but I would like to go for a built in solution if possible.

I attached a picture below of what's left (which is not much).

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks,
Kamo

If you want one that will fit in that curved closet, you will need to contact a recovery dealer like Colaws, or build your own, out of fiberglass.

Here's what an above the floor tank might look like.

Hi Kamo,
The link below is a step by step repair ( in pictures) on a 66 Overlander. It includes the bathroom floor, shower and holding tank. It might give you some ideas. There are numerous threads here at Airstream Forums with much info too.

Good luck!

Hi,

We have a 63 Bambi and my husband completely re-did everything. However, we have most all original equipment. The toilet is a replacement, probably sometime in the 70's... he has a loooooooong thread. I did a quick search and found a picture that shows the black tank in place and the plumbing pipes. You might search forward and backward for other information about the toilet/plumbing. Good luck. It is a big job!

It seems like creating the curved holding tank is a pretty large project (especially if I need to make it strong enough to support a person.)

Has anyone ever installed one of these low profile holding tanks under the rv?
Does this sound crazy?

Hello Kamo ,It would be a project to build one of those original tanks ,try to see if anyone has one ,that is what was in there .sits above the floor ,
surrounded by a wooden platform floor .works good ,The looks of your picture
you could use a square tank right there also ,just would be smaller capacity.
you need to enclose it with a new boxed in floor and rear wall support for the floor board below the commode.

Black Water Tank

Hi Kamo ~

Here's a couple pix of the tank. It still has the plywood that was part of the raised floor on it. The metal ring will probably need to be cut off and then the plywood would lift off. The second one is a shot of the bottom. Also a PDF with dimensions. Let me know what you think.

i think i'll be needing to do something similar on our 18 footer this winter. i wonder what it would cost to have that fabricated from scratch?

Having just repaired my fiberglass tank, I find this interesting.

Could you build the basic shape out of cardboard then fiberglass over it?

After it cures then go back and drill your holes for the toilet, drain, and vent and glass on those connections.

The cardboard inside would probably just fall apart after repeated soaking and just leave the fiberglass shell.

I was thinking about building the shape using 1/8" plywood and leave it in there. Although the rotting wood could create a nasty ground for bacteria.

Hello guys,

I am clueless about fiberglass...however my hubby has done a lot of it. He used cardboard to make a shroud for an airconditioner and fiberglassed over it... did really well the moisture didn't phase it. He said you could make a cardboard tank and then fiberglass it when I asked him about your question.
