Thanks everyone, for your input.

To clarify, I'm not hooked up to city water. The trailer is fairly level--as level as it ever is in the driveway--and it's never done this before.

The hot water tank theory may have some merit; while I dewinterized the rest of the system before our last trip, I only dewinterized the hot water tank after it, coinciding with the rest of the issues.

While I think this is a viable theory, how do I check it?

Thank you, again.

perplexing water pump issue

Did air come out of the hot water taps when you tried the pump?

If so this would tend to validate the theory.

If the theory is right about what happened , it may not happen again, but if it does, it might not really matter in a practical sense, (other than most of the five to ten gallons of water your hot water heater holds slowly leaking out in your driveway)

Turn the pump on and draw water using a hot water faucet till you do not get air slugs. Now the heater is full of water.

You have also drawn down the level in the fresh water tank.

perplexing water pump issue

I think the only way to really check for this issue is to try and duplicate the prior conditions.

I think the chances are better than even that it won't reoccur.

In my thinking, the winterizing of the unit plays into my theory, unless you only filled the hot water heater after the leaks on the driveway, if this is the case it totally negates my theory, and it would make the single event of the driveway drips and the pump taking a long time to make pressure separate and unrelated events.

This would explain the slow build of pressure, but then the driveway drips would still be a mystery.

Went out this morning, turned on the pump and the hot water at both faucets--pump ran about 70 seconds before turning off--lots of air expelled from lines. Pump seems to be operating normally now.
Thank you all for your suggestions. Hopefully this issue is resolved.
