'55 Water heater gas switching off

Can anyone help me?
i have just bought a '55 Safari, the original gas water heater fires up and then shuts down after around 2 minutes, i can restart it but it shuts down again. any ideas?

1) You do have water in it, don't you?

2) Watch the thermocouple and be sure it is still heated by the pilot flame after the burner lights

3) Check for any obstructions in the burner tube or flue

Thanks for that it was option 3, i gave it a few taps to shift some of the obstrustions and it works!!
