Dual Gray Water & Dual Black Water?

I'm still learning the ropes with a '92 29' Excella A/S my wife and I acquired from my mother and father. My father told me it has "dual gray and black water tanks." I'm not sure how to interpret this statement. I only have one dump valve for gray and one dump valve for black water. Both valves dump through a common pipe just as you would expect.

The bottom of the A/S is not smooth - in fact it has two rather large, bulbous sections of sheet metal near the center of the trailer extending the full width of the body. These sheet metal enclosures seem unusual to me. Could this be a second gray water and a second black water tank? When I had the A/S serviced recently the tech told me these protuberances were a little unusual but I did not question him much about the matter.

The only way I can think of to get an answer is to this matter is to drain the gray and black tanks completely then measure the amount of water needed to fill the tanks to the point of overflowing. Any other ideas?

The owners manual does not address any optional tanks. Is anyone familiar with whether "dual tanks" were offered from the factory or perhaps dealer installed? The monitor panel inside the A/S only has one column of lights for gray and one for black.

By the way, our first outing was fantastic! We spent 4 nights at Koreshan State Park near Fort Myers, FLA. Now we're just dreaming of the day that we can take extended trips. Full Timing is sounding better all the time!

first, welcome to the forum.

i think they ment dual as in one of each. at least that is how my '92 is set up. i can't imagine yours is any different.

the large box under the trailer also houses the fresh water tank.

i have a few pics of mine in the photo area. i would like to see some of yours some time, just to compare.

I agree. I don't think I have ever heard of dual grey and dual black tanks.

The extra weight alone would seem to make that prohibitive.

Mis-communication here but, it's plain to say..He said it meaning "dual" as in one of each. Even your valve setup confirms that.

I believe the sheet metal enclosures encapsulate the tanks, allowing the warm air from the heater to circulate and keep them from freezing, thus allowing for all season travel.

Thanks for the responses. I suspected my father may have meant one gray water tank and one black water tank. Mom and Dad had Airstreams for years so their early trailers would have had only a black water tank. I'm sure it was quite a nice improvement for them to have "dual tanks."
