Fresh Water cap/lid on AS overlander 1969

My fresh water cap is stuck and i cant remove it without destroying it :-(

Where can i buy a new one ?
I prefer a model with a lock.

Post a picture of what you are looking at (I assume its the fresh water fill door?). Since '69 was a transition year, it helps to know what it looks like.

It's the aluminium cap in front of the trailer (outside).
Where you refill the tank with fresh water.

i dont have a picture now, when i get home again ( in the weekend i will post)

spray wd 40 or other penetrant under it along the sides, wait a little while, use a pipe wrench or locking pliers to loosen it.

Wrenching with pliers or pipe wrench will scratch the cap if you are not careful. I had the same issue on my 68. After trying pentranting sprays with no luck, I wound up using a heat gun to gently heat the cap and then used a big strap wrench ( a big metal one not the cheapo plastic type) to unscrew it. A propane torch (the old blue flame wrench) would work but be careful and don't get things too hot. Be careful when you wrench that you don't twist the inlet stem that the cap is screwed on to. After cleaning up the threads on both the cap and the inlet tube, both were very corroded, I put a little silicone plumbers grease on the threads. It will come off with no problem now. Although I did get the cap off, I never use the inlet to fill the fresh tank. When I replumbed the trailer I installed a valve where I can fill the fresh tank when city water is attached to the trailer. This is much easier.

Hey! I had the same problem with my 69 sovereign. Despite trying everything, including lubricants and strap wrenches... I removed the whole thing... On mine there are screws holding the phalange to the skin of the trailer. I placed the whole assembly, cap and all, into a yoghurt container filled with water. I left the stuck cap portion out of the water. I gently heated the cap with a propane torch around and around, not staying too long in one place for fear of damaging the soft aluminum. After a few minutes (before the metal started to discolour) I removed the filler assembly out of the container of water and with a thick glove, held the assembly in one hand and used a strap wrench in the other to unscrew the stuck cap. It came off effortlessly. I then cleaned out the threads and used petroleum jelly to keep them lubricated for the rest of the season. No locks though! Good luck!!!

I just removed the fill unit with cap. Had it powder coated semi gloss black as I'm going to have the lower front of the trailer sprayed with bed liner.

Well after installing a new fresh water tank and found a misalignment with the filler I tried to raise the filler without having to make a patch panel.

As it worked out yesterday I used a locking filler door unit instead.

So I have a powder coated filler unit with cap that is available for $30 + shipping

thank for info.

i have tried to lubricate it for several days without any lock.
but i haven't tried to use heat, i dont want to dammage the unit.

but if heat worked for you, i will give it a try and heat it gentle up..
