We replaced both factory skylights on the Classic with the Maxim units as we as the single factory skylight unit on the 23D. We used the white frosted Maxim skylights over the Classic bathroom and on the 23D and a bronze unit over the Classic kitchen skylight opening.

RVMS2U, what was wrong with your skylight, and was it original? I ask because we don't spend money on things that function well; our original is letting in plenty of light and keeping out weather.

It's doing its task, but realizing plastic components have limited life it would be good to have an idea what that life span might be. Understanding hail can damage a lot of things on our Airstream and truck.

Well the new trailers actually come installed with double sided tape, that older trailers had self taping screws holding it, and were cracking around screw area, also the plastic is very thin.
To me it makes sense to replace it with something far better.Click image for larger version

Switz, you agree? The new one you can leave the blind open, sun won't damage the Upholstry or linoleum

Makes good sense at that point. Fourteen years is good service from the old one, we'll probably let ours go on awhile.

We replaced both our skylights on our 2004 (new to us) with the Maxims. Really like them. After 11 years in the sun the old ones were in really bad shape. These should be factory installed on all Airstream units

The factory could not get the Maxim skylights for free, so they won't install them. The negotiations broke down over cost. The Maxim list price is sub $300 and would be a small incremental cost on the $60,000, and up trailers. Besides, that would, be a premium product.....

Notice there are very few options on any Airstream and most are mechanical like second air conditioner with 50 amp service, a power awning, an overpriced 106 watt solar system and a 1,000 watt inverter than can not even run the microwaves they install as standard or optional depending on the model and trim line of the trailer.

There are many Maxim color options for both the aluminum frame and the lenses along with clear and frosted which Airstream would get confused handling. I say that as our 2015 23D International Serenity they forgot to put the Airstream name ion the rear of the trailer.

Our Airstream is a 2001 model purchased in 2002 by the previous owner. Skylights seemed to be functioning well and I left them along until NOW. The aft skylight disappeared on it's own on a trip westward this past summer. I didn't detect its absence for a day or two after it was parked while visiting my sister in Kansas. Anyhow, I covered it with a piece of plywood and there it sits until we install the new Maxims I have here at home. So for us lets say 13 years was the functional lifespan of the factory installed skylights for us.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and a HAPPY NEW YEAR
See ya on the road sometime.

I'm so glad I don't have skylights, just fantastic fans front and rear. The rear one has a cover to keep room off.
