shattered front side window for new years!

What a bummer today. I just got on the road this afternoon towing my argosy and a rock or some road debris must of flew up off the freeway and shattered my left front window. This is a 75 argosy, any one know if the local Camper clinic will be able to order one from Airstream? I'm thinking a regular glass shop may not be equipped to know how to deal with this. Argh!!!!!!!

You cannot get the clear wing windows from Airstream any more. Airstream makes tinted ones that will fit but are very expensive. Best bet is to try and find a used one somewhere.

You might try Colaws RV salvage.

Worth a try to these folks, we've had good luck with them. They might steer you to some aftermarket vendor.

Hey Gypsybanker,
That's some bad fortune to start the new year Bummer.
There aren't too many options available for you.
Salvage-Colaw's, RV Revive
New from Airstream (tinted)
Lexan or other Polycarbonate.
Good luck and let me know if I can help.

sc,
Yes I figured it was. There are some people around here that have many trailers though. I'll see if I can scrounge up someone parting out an Argosy.

Your insurance will cover it, if you have it.

The wrap windows cost better than $ 800.00 each, plus shipping.

That's good to hear Andy (well just that its not hard to replace, not the price of course), and I do have insurance on it.

Last spring the same happened to our right front windowon our 75 20' Argosy. I was bringing it home from the Airstream dealer after replacing the axle and installing a new awning. Back to the dealer again! My insurance did cover it ($2300 for the tinted window installed). I did get the rock shields installed as well. 1. To not have to do this again and 2. So it didn't look like it had a black eye!

Good luck with your search.

Did your insurance give you a hard time about replacing the whole front? I'll get on that this morning. The trailer is at the shop already and the insurance co is involved already. Thanks for that! Does it look ok with the tinted windows?

$2300.00 for a wrap window installed, is rather high.

The wrap window costs a little less than $ 900.00, and the rivets and sealer cost less than $75.00.

Labor at maximum, is 3 hours.

Freight is less than $75.00.

They just replaced the one window and wanted to balk at that! I paid ~$1200 to add the Rock guards. Here is a before and after pictures. We think it looks pretty good from the outside. A little darker on the inside but you can open them if you want.

I agree Andy, but we were new to Airstreams/ Argosys and didn't have any other options at the time. Now I would at least try another RV/Big Rig repair shop first.

I agree Andy, but we were new to Airstreams/ Argosys and didn't have any other options at the time. Now I would at least try a place called Wescraft first. I think we paid for some oftheir "Largest Airstream Inventory".

I would like to caution eople that are quick to follow the advice to let their insurabce company pay for damage to their trailers, especially older ones. Check your policy first, and make sure the trailer isn't insured for actual cash value. If it is, you could get a very nasty surprise when an adjuster comes out to take a look at your broken window, totals the trailer, gives you a check for $500, and hauls it away.

Now that your no longer a "virgin", as a suggestion, if you wish to question prices, workmanship or the like, this Forums is the place to do it.

Many people will chime in to offer assistance.
