I don't have a lot of choice with my Interstate but to use the under-the-tire mount. If you get one, make sure the base is very stiff. I bought two mounts that weren't stiff enough (I have four flags to fly: US, LA, CoE, WBCCI). The wind was from the north; my van was facing west. The flagpole on the north side caught the wind and actually bent the base of the mount so that the flagpole banged against the side of the van.
Fortunately I had the foresight to wrap the flagpole with pipe insulation so there were no dents or scratches on the side of my Interstate. But I immediately ordered a better pair of mounts that won't bend as easily, which I'll try out on my next excursion.
If you can find a mount that attaches to your hitch, or to the front of your propane tank cover, or whatever, you're much better off than with an under-the-tire mount. I've seen trailers at WBCCI events where they flew as many as five flags on poles arranged in a fan shape, all attached to the front of the trailer on a single mount.

What a Fiasco
I have a story to tell on getting a mount put on my 28. This really has been a HUGE ordeal. I will post pictures with full explanation just as soon as I can. This has been the most frustrating project, and if I wasn't a veteran, I wouldn't have put so much effort into getting this done RIGHT. Very proud to fly the U.S. flag.
Older rigs are at a true advantage when getting this feat accomplished. Seems everything I did had to be modified one way or the other. I have FINALLY gotten all of the components together to mount my holder. Arrgghhh. More on this tmrw.

It's not the flagpole that was bending in my case. It was the flat metal plate that goes under the tire. And since the tube attached to the base was only big enough to hold a 2-1/4" diameter pole, there wouldn't have been any way to attach a 4" diameter pole to the base anyway.

Geez BA, if you don't have anything positive to say, why post?
You threw a $95 or $165 option into the trash can. And your point is?
Not here to stir the pot, but I find your post to be counter productive to the spirit of the board. We are here to help each other, foster new relationships, and insure all of us are able to enjoy the great outdoors TOGETHER. Throwing something into the "trash can" is a negative I could do w/o when visiting here. I don't care what flag you fly, just be proud of WHAT you fly.

This 20' telescoping pole is from Camping World. I secure it under the tongue jack. Works great. Stores under the front gaucho sofa.

I'm presently looking for better telescoping poles that use spring-loaded buttons to lock in the extended position, and with rotating anti-furling rings to attach two flags to. Preferably in a 20' length for use with an "under the tire" base on my Interstate so I can get the lower flag on each pole above the van's roof line. So far I've not had a lot of luck; those features seem to be more common on poles for permanent mounting at home than on portable poles for RV use.

Protagonist, take a look at these guys. They have a very nice 22' fiberglass pole that has locking pins to prevent collapsing, breaks down to 48" 4lbs and a carrying case for $54.95.
We have ordered from them and like the quality of there flags.

I definitely endorse Sandlapper's flag poll holder. I have the three hole version and it's a high quality, well-designed product. I don't have close up photos to post, but I will take some and post them when I get my trailer back from JC - I'm going to add an LED light and switch so I can light the American flag after dark.

Finishing the Flag Pole for Display

Our holder is on its way, poles purchased, flags purchased, anxious to fly our colors.
Questions for those who use the Great Hawk poles. Anyone find something particularly befitting for a pole cap? Welcome any ideas. Also, any tips on mounting the flag. We purchased the swivel mounts, but the base has to be cinched down to the pole and I am just not sure how much cinching it will take before structure is breached.
Thanks
Scott

I have sandlappers pole mount. Very nice item. I use the painters poles. I got some wooden finials from "The Flag Store" in Sparks NV. I also use plastic swivel clips to hold the flags. A little wrap of duck tape makes the finial fit snugly. eventflags.com
