Fire extinguisher - Where & How Many
Soooooo, where do you keep your fire extinguisher? I have only one and keep it in my kitchen pantry. On second (or third) thought, I don't think this is an appropriate place. I dislike the look of it hanging on a wall, but.... I even wonder if I should have a couple and place them in differing areas.
Oh, and what type do you carry. I found one RV website that says it should be BC rated. But, in the same article, it mentions that many RV fires are of A type. ???
Thanks for your thoughts,
Laura

I keep one in the area where I sleep. I also have one in the kitchen in case of a fire in that area.

One is mounted on the wall near the floor by the main entry door and the other is in the bedroom on the wall near the floor. I got 2.5# ABC's for mine. Had to go to a regular fire extinguisher service shop for that type. This way I am cover for all types of fires even outside the coach. In addition, the TV also has 10# ABC.

We have the standard one by the entrence door, a second one in the closet next to the bed. I also installed a Fireboy automatic (FE241 chemical) fire extingusher in my refrigerator compartment after having the Dometic recall work done.

One by the bed (Center bath model).
One in the TV cab.

Ours came with one mounted near the door and another mounted on the wall in the bedroom. As I feel kind of good about that, it occurs to me that I should find it ironic that I don't know where the one in my house is.
I knew there was something else I needed from Home Depot today.

We have the one by the door near the kitchen but it never occurred to me to have one in the rear bedroom area. At first blush, it seems overkill to have two extinguishers to cover a 250 square foot space but maybe two is the right way to go. Thanks for the heads up.

Just a thought - if you're in the back of the trailer, and the stove/oven is the source of a fire, you really do not want to try and get past the burning stove to get to the fire extinguisher. Having a second one in the bedroom area is really cheap peace of mind insurance. One by the door is pretty standard, because you can reach it easily from both inside and outside. My 2 cents.

We have 3....a large one kept in the closet, a small one in the bedroom, and a small one by the door, reachable from outside. All of ours are ABC (dry chemical)....however, a member of the AirForums, who is also a fireman, told us at a rally that we should have carbon dioxide extinguishers.

I had to look that one up. Looks like the CO2 extinguishers are for Class B & C also.
So, this leads me to another question. Seems most recommend the BC extinguishers. These fight the flammable liquid & electrical fires. Whereas the Class A is for ordinary combustibles (wood, paper, cloth). If you're fighting a fire caused by electrical - Class C, wouldn't you also need to extinguish the other parts on fire -Class A?
Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going shopping.

I have the factory supplied one by the door, one in the bedroom, one in the lower street side compartment, one in the TV. Received my advice/info from a local fire marshall/RVer. Better safe and sorry.

Since it's a Caravel, we like to say that by the time you notice, you're probably already on fire! Not a lot of room in there But we do have an ABC by the door. Unless the kitchen area burst into flames while you were in the toidy, you're probably already as close to the door as you're going to get. In an emergency we could head out the back window.
As for the TV, it's one of those highly flammable Fords, so maybe I should look into an onboard fire suppression system - but barring that, a fire extinguisher would probably be a really good idea.
Have there ever been studies about the most likely causes of RV fires?
