Tire Temp Monitoring with infrared thermo gun

I do not have a TPTM system, but do have a infrared temperature monitoring "gun."
What temps should be considered "normal" and which ones "abynormal" in an 85 25' Sovereign?
Those of you that have the TPTM systems feel free to comment about the temps you start with and what you consider normal operating temps + and -.

Using tire temps look for a tire that is hotter than others. Take a base temp before towing and the take temps at all stops. Again you are looking for consistancy.

This would be to determine future tire failure, not to determine proper tire inflation.

Depending on speed and load vs inflation, I think you can expect 20 degree or so above ambient temps.

It also depends where on the tire you check. I check at the shoulder, between the outer tread blocks. This is the hottest part of the tire, due to the most flexing of the carcass. I find that temps are normally 125 - 145*F when outside temps are 80 - 90*F. Steve is right. Get a baseline norm and look for inconsistencies between tires and from the norm.

Agreeing with recording readings and then watching for higher than your norms. Also consider shooting the drums if possible. Low drum temp can indicate under performing brake and high temps can indicate brake drag.

It's a very useful tool.

The only documented number I can offer comes from the Dill owners manual. It alarms at internal temp over 176 deg F.
