I ran Nokian Hakkapelleta snow tires last winter. Amazing grip. I commute over Donner Summit daily. Never had a slippery day. They wore out in about 25k miles though.

Thanks for the report. We have XC skied right there -- plenty of snow that's for sure!

Agree about performance; as used on a Subaru Outback.
Great in snow and rain; but ran mine for about 65,000 miles in Canada.

Had no problem convincing my local DT to mount 16" Michelins on our trailer. Showed them AS literature for the Eddie Bauer, Pendleton and Classic models, which showed that tire as factory equipment. After that, they cheerfully installed the tires, no further questions.

OTOH, they stoutly declined to install the 15" Michelin LTX tires on our trailer back when I wanted to do that. Given their response, shortly thereafter we went with the 16" solution.

And I had no issues at all with Discount Tire mounting 15" Michelins on my wheels. So if one dealer won't do it, find one that will.

Glad to read this on that other thread. Have you put the Nokians through their paces in any unusual road conditions? Probably too early to ask about wear . . .

I priced some out recently and may be headed in this direction for 15" rather than upgrading wheels and tires to 16".

Thanks again,

Peter

I have had them in and out of the mountains several times but the weather has been good. So far no real big difference. I don't think I'll have much to report till I have them in the wet and snow. There I know they will make a big difference. As far as mileage goes I am sure they will be replaced long before the tread is half gone.

If I had to go back to 15 inchers, I would either get maxxis or Duros.

I contacted Nokian back in Aug. 2015 about these tires and here is what the response was for air pressure.

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Nokian Tyres.

Yes, maximum inflation is 80 psi. If you were to run at 65 psi, max load would be 2335 lbs for single or 2150 for dual application.

Hope this information is helpful.

Regards,

Nokian Tyres

Alternative to GYM 225/75R15

Thanks for the info. I guessed 70psi on my bunk. Seems to ride nice. Looks like I might could go a bit lower. To bad they don't have a nice chart to dial in perfectly. Really like them so far!

Sounds like you did not get them at the time? Curious if you did get new tires and if so the brand, size and specs.

Thanks,

Peter

LOL, I will be getting them next yr. Right now we are still using the Continental Vanco 2 on a 5,000 + mile trip ( in Alabama right now ). There will still be plenty of rubber left on these, just not going to trust them with 8 yrs. use after this trip.
The reason I had emailed Nokian was to see if these tires would be good for a lower pressure. I like to keep a softer ride and do not want to be higher than 65 PSI. and maybe a tad lower.

Thanks at 8 years, maybe the Nokians make sense right now? Safe home.

Is everyone happy with their new Nokians, and what tire pressure are you using? FYI there is a new discussion on the GYE thread about possible inter-poly shear if using less than 80 PSI [per Nokian see Post #30]:

Thanks,

Peter

I have maybe 10,000 on mine now and love them. Snow, slush, wet and dry there is no comparison in the improved traction, tracking and ride. If I remember right 65 pounds of nitrogen on my 30' Bunk. Pretty much set and forget. I do a quick walk around to visually check them and I always tow with dry tanks. Great tires!

Appears the tire has been updated with no 15's available. GY Endurance are $160 locally which is a joke. Another 15" gone. ST tires or upgrade to 16" rims?

I just went to their web site to check this out. The AT ones are still showing the LT235/75R15" tire

Thanks for posting this.

B.T.W Where are they manufactured?
Ideally the wheel load rating should exceed tire rating.

On a trailer, rim width and tread width match tends to be ideal.
