Tire size help

Hi,
I need to replace the tires on my 1993 21' Sovereign. I am currently running Carlisle ST205/75R14's - by no particular choice as these tires were chosen for me by the tire shop. The shop I bought these tires from did not have knowledge of the best tires for my trailer.

I am considering Goodyear Enurance tires and am wondering if ST225/75R15 tire would fit my trailer. I've been told moving up in size might be a good idea. I would like to confirm fit before buying.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm sorry, I do not know the answer to your question. I can say I had no trouble going to 15 inch tires on my 2015, 16 foot Bambi.

Hi

Well I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Carlisle Tire plant is now a big empty field with a few blades of grass poking up through it. Anything you see today with their name on it is a "who knows what" item.

Michelin LTX's are pretty good tires, but expensive.

I hope you realize that going from 14" to 15" involves changing wheels.

Second, what does your vehicle tire placard say about tire size? I don't know about older trailers, but since 2008, the vehicle tire placard has to be on the driver's front portion of the trailer.

This is somewhat misleading.

Like much of the automotive industry, there has been a lot of consolidation. Many specialty tire brands have been purchased by larger companies and are now produced in more modern plants - Carlisle is one of those. They are part of the Carlstar group which has many plants in the US.

Further, Michelin does not make anything in a 14" that is comparable to an ST205/75R14.

Thanks for this, I appreciate the insights. I will check the plancard on my trailer.

Hi

The Michelin comment was in response to the 15" part of the question ...

If Carlstar is manufacturing trailer tires in the US, they do an *excellent* job of hiding that fact.
